Server version and how to check for latest?

I am running server version 1262. I am told that is the latest yet I get manifest errors with steam ID for several of my players.

I assumed that meant the steam client or rust client needed to be updated BUT was told that meant my server was not up to date.

So questions:

1. where do I check for the latest version of rust SERVER besides just checking for updates with the server commands?

Suggestions: we need an active system like via twitter or SMS or EMAIL that indicates when a server and/or client is updated. @RustUpdates is ok but really only tells me what is being fixed.
