um, you got banned for using cheat engine. doesn't matter what game you play.
beside which, VAC don't get reversed, especially when you actually cheated.
no sympathy. make a new steam account and rebuy your games. learn a lesson from this.

I've refrained from posting in the Rust section until now since I don't personally care about the game but this is a really stupid thing to say. If it was used for a non-VAC game then there is no reason for a VAC ban. (This isn't addressing the stupidity of risking one though.)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using Cheat Engine in a single player game at all. I do question why OP had both Rust and Dragon Age running at the same time though for this to have happened.
vac searches for programs binding to vac enabled programs. just having it open or using it on a different program doesn't qualify.
this forum can't help with vac bans anyway, you want to bring that up with Valve

cheating in a 1 player game is a matter of personal standards; personally i don't as i find it ruins the game balance. that's up to him though, as it really affects no-one else.
either way, i have no sympathy for his VAC ban; it's intended to catch people who use cheats, and did exactly that.
Its not that i dont trust you, but its hard to beleive that they would ban you for nothing, they wouldnt take your game from you just like that for not using cheats, if its true and you didnt cheat i think there is nothing you can do to get your game back except buying it with different account on steam
lol I'd be real surprised if he even returned to this thread
GG cheater

This.
When you use cheat engine, (and by all means, enjoy cheat engine in single player games), you have to hook cheat engine in the active game process. So when you do this correctly on Dragon Age, you should not get VAC banned.
OP got banned because OP tried to use cheatengine on the rust process. The fact that Dragon Age was running at the same time is completely irrelevant.
TLDR: OP is a dumbass cheater

And world of warcraft doesn't even want to start when you have cheat engine open, you can not know what valve anti cheat does to detect it's cheaters. OP may or may not have cheated. Unless i see good proof vac doesn't scan active processes i'm not gonna speculate.

I've even used trainers and cheat programs on single player games that run through steam. Left them open while also running Rust. Never got banned, VAC only scans hooked processes that use VAC and the game file checksums in order to prevent changed textures etc.

You can not run multiple steam games in the same time.

Ah i am sorry, last time i did try it used to be different.

VAC not only records external hooks into protected applications, it records file system changes in said applications as well as likely several other detection methods. The trick is that it doesn't just ban, it records for a long time, gathering more and more evidence thus ensuring that when it does ban in a wave all those players who have been recorded cheating many, many, times by the means mentioned above those bans are rock solid and are never overturned. The only times false positives have happened have been when developers change the filesystems in an update but fail to communicate the changes to VAC, resulting in whole groups of players being temporarily banned - but when the mistake is confirmed those bans are indeed overturned.

You can only run 1 source game at a time. But other games have no limits on steam.

yeah this, it may be frustrating to some that hackers don't get banned straight away, but that's because VAC is very thorough. The OP is with 99.9% certainty just another hacker that got busted and is now trying to squirm out of it.
either way, i have no sympathy for his VAC ban; it's intended to catch people who use cheats, and did exactly that.
If Cheat Engine was attached to Rust then totally. If OP is actually telling the truth though and managed to get banned while using it on Dragon Age though (even though playing Rust and another game at the same time is kinda nonsensical) then that sounds like an issue with the VAC system. Being strict about enforcing the rules is one thing but something like what I described is essentially a false positive even if it is rather iffy. In particular with Cheat Engine, it's an open source program so the VAC developers could take a look at how it attaches to a process and should be able to avoid false positives.

Totally. This bit is completely subjective and varies from person to person. Personally I have absolutely no issue using Cheat Engine in a singleplayer game if it makes the game more fun for me. I have no sympathy for those who use it to get an edge in multiplayer games though.
Was your little brother also on your account when you got banned? No, sympathy for cheaters. If you're willing to cheat you probably have no empathy for lying either. The Rust community is dominated by hackers and cheaters. I don't know how it is on Experimental, but on Legacy it is ridiculous. This isn't like a generic First Person Shooter where you respawn and try to get another shot at killing a hacker. If someone is using radar/aimbot and kills you can literally lose hours and days worth of materials.

The reason my so many people have little to no sympathy for this individual is that last year stories like this were very common. People have claimed to have had VAC trigger for all manner of bizarre circumstances ranging from rubber banding due to lag to having a resource node spawn on them to using a trainer for an unrelated game on its respective game.
I'm not saying its not possible for VAC to be wrong, just that this particular story has been told many times before(just swap out Dragon Age with Minecraft, WarZ/Infestation or other game that the person in question thinks the Rust community would believe the cheats were really for) and was false.
thanks everyone replying and i would say i got the game back and i did't cheat but thanks for the help
