I think the story should of been that we are a computer simulation.

I kind of get the Idea of a post nuclear disaster that causes the oceans to rise, creating many scattered islands. The nuclear war could have caused radiation in certain areas (Rad towns). Somehow, Humans have regressed back to a nomadic, neanderthalic state where they become hunter gatherers once more, and now have to brave their new homes and bringing forth a new age of human civilization. The remaining/unaffected survivors of the nuclear disaster who had access to their own technology aid survivors by providing air drops to help give the survivors a "push" into progressivism.
