• [Suggestion] Door Hatch

With the latest update containing ladders we have the ability to climb a base vertically. As an addition to internal ladders for a base there should be horizontal hatch-like doors/doorways that can be built as part of the roof to secure access to upper floors of a base. Bring on the hatches! ^.^
Would be cool
Does no one else want to see this happen?

You close the door and your "relative" safe from twig tower or people who only try to ladder up to your roof. A access hatch / door will 9/10 change be impossible to place a barricade upon. Looks i am a raider, i twig tower with some friends beyond your roof. One guy jumps naked down aiming for your hatch. He misses, he dies. Nothing lost. One moment somebody will get on top of the hatch and they Teleport there friends. And voila ... all your barricades amount to exactly nothing. Any open or free space WILL be targeted by raiders. A unguarded spot on your roof is a weak spot. And anybody who has not place his roof full of barricades is not smart. Because it has become the nr one sweet spot now with ladders in place. People focusing so much on sticking out floors as anti ladder protection that they forget about there roofs. Given that.. i am sure the developers will LOVE to implement another thing that makes raiding even more easy.
Frankly its a raiders wet dream.
It would be optional, I'm sure.
And voila ... all your barricades amount to exactly nothing.
As they do when I take out a single roof barricade. I love seeing roofs covered in metal barricades. It means plenty of resources and an owner so confident in external protection that they've probably centralized their loot for me. They require no extra work. All I need to do is rocket or C4 before I jump down. I take out the ceiling and the barricade at the same time. They do act as a deterrent, for sure. You're just dramatizing this a bit though.
The use would not only be the roof but the floors inside your house. I love the idea.
The use would not only be the roof but the floors inside your house. I love the idea.
This is the main thing I was thinking of, the ability to use hatches and secure each floor from the other while conserving space.
Definately. Now we have vertical ladders we need vertical doors (hatches) for compact base designs.
Frankly its a raiders wet dream.
How so? Presumably a closed hatch would have the same HP as a floor/ceiling tile, in the same way as a closed door has the same HP as a wall tile ... how would this help raiders?

i think you would make it a 2 piece like the doorway/doors. the hatch is like a window, then you add the hatchdoor to it. each has their own hp, equivalent to the doorway/door components. so you could have a metal hatch with a codelock that can actually resist a bit of damage from raiders.

Wood -> Sheet -> Armored
Made exactly the same point here but nobody replied to it: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1467373 I think it would be a great addition.
I could see the hatch being located on the bottom of the base.
