So what you think of ladders? please discuss.
Hello MrBluePlaydoh! My opinion about ladders is that, should be removed. Rust should be hard to raid, make it difficut With the ladders it's just easy
Thank you so far this is what every one is saying on the server im playing on, Raiding just isnt fun any more and you dont get a sence of acheivment when you do manage to raid.
Ladders are good, but it should only be leant on fondations, ceiling and the ground, no everywhere like it is designed right now. I've stopped playing waiting for a clever alternative of their usage.
Greatest thing ever! Now even I can reach rock bases, I don´t know how to climb and wasn't able to construct raid towers close enough to get to them before. Even traps don't catch me anymore, I just climb up with the us of a ladder. Since I was not able to construct raid towers I was always stuck on first floor after using many c4 to destroy surrounding walls and the wall in to first floor, just to find out the stairs to second was not there that made me angry, I did´t know what to do. But ladders will save me, I think using time to think about how to raid a house and make plans what I need and work to get it is not any fun. I will just raid. This is every RUST noob argument to get the ladder. Fuck ladders!

Problem solved. As for the gameplay, they should be left inside the game. I dont want to farm all night for raiding, I want to play the game, and only raid sometimes. Current form of raiding requires all your gaming time for building your base and making stuff to raid other ones. If the ladder makes it a bit easier, I support it, as I wont build more than a 2x2 box.

There are a lot of bases to raid at the moment built pre ladders. The question for me is whether people that are raided will try to rebuild or whether they won't bother.
To me they are a nessasary feeler for a better option, let's for a moment throw game balance out the window and consider what raiding is, when its an active defense its really fun you have to shoot the defenders coordinate very well with your allies , its really fun however... If we look at the unfun gameplay mechanics of raiding they include hitting a wall 900 times with a pick axe this is boring and well.. Its just not fun its a good thing to see the game evolving past this sort of basic straight forward game play I know that ladders break the current game and what we are used to but its important that we are testing alternative interaction for raiding, like I said consider them from a conceptual stand point not from how the game is currently played, all in all I like it
Why not just make it so you cannot place ladders while on a ladder and make ladders only 2 walls high. Me thinks this would solve a lot of issues.
Why not just make it so you cannot place ladders while on a ladder and make ladders only 2 walls high. Me thinks this would solve a lot of issues.
1.5 walls high and then im down for it. :downs:
If you have ever worked on a roofing job you learn pretty quickly how heavey a 20 or 40 foot ladder can be. I think there should be an inventory limit of one ladder and while carrying it you can not equip other items. Now raids are more realistic if you have to have assigned ladder men. If you are alone then you better raid carefully and under cover of darkness
I like ladders. In reality it makes sense to build a ladder instead of just building a separate building to get to the roof of a base.
Just build your base to be ladder-resistant. Barricades and floor spikes around the perimeter, overhanging upper floors. I swear, some of you will be upset until raiding is completely impossible.
I don't mind the ladders at all just want the game to be as realistic as possible. People carrying ten 40' ladders in a pocket is just stupid. And ladders clinging to the wall like they are bolted in is also stupid. I was thinking of building a tower as a troll base with spiked floors from top down a few floors just to see who would go through the roof and spend all that time and equipment to get to the front door lol
I think they are ok. That said c4 needs changes and so do walls vs doors. C4 is too long, too expensive and too powerfull mostly because of its blast radius. Takes the fun out for me, seems like pickaxe raids are the only profitable ones...
Ladders are bullcrap.
remove the ladder stupid shit lmao it makes no fun....
Feels more like legacy. Seems more realistic. Im enjoying the ladders so far
I love the ladders! We have seen rock bases become hugely popular with not only solo players, but groups too.. giving an advantage over those who do not choose to build upon them. As far as I'm concerned, this game is all about raiding at the moment.. I find it hard to get a raid tower to rock with rock bases due to the proximity of the tool cupboard and the small footprint of the rock base within that proximity.. making it hard to get one close enough.. Ladders have made fairer game to be able to raid these bases like any other base that's not on a rock. Without ladders, ultimately bases would become almost unraidable in some circumstances.. this game is not designed for that.. its designed so everyone can raid and be raided.. that your going to lose your gear at some point. I find it funny that people who complain are mostly people who use rock bases (with some exceptions) and of course, would love a game where they cannot be raided but of course, they can raid others.. which to me is just silly. Whether or not the ladders need tweaking (they probably do), Garry has specifically mentioned that this is all about testing.. not complaining.
Feels more like legacy. Seems more realistic. Im enjoying the ladders so far
My thoughts exactly. Best addition to the game for a long time for me. Also, I was prepared for when the ladders hit because I've always been paranoid about flyhackers, so built my bases accordingly.
This gives a big benefit to the wealthy and large grouped players. Now all noobs/regular players will get raided even easier and are more defenseless than ever. It all depends on what side you're on.
we need more durability on defenses, and more defenses. all people have to do is 1 c4 and barricades are done with. Id suggest somthing like wall spikes, wall snap traps, triggered arrows out of the wall (like in indiana jones), pressure/motion triggered traps, etc. make people THINK while they raid
I raided a 3 story tall building by placing ladders to the roof, the guy had forgotten to make a key for his top floor wooden door lock, so I just made a key opened it and walked right in (wouldn't really matter because the top 2 floors were just upgraded to wood, just made it a lot faster and easier). In the end I kinda felt sorry for him so I used the loot to upgrade his house to stone, put down 3 armoured keylock doors and left the code written on his sleeping bags. Ladders make it that much easier to raid still building/upgrading bases, ridiculously easier, increasing the gap between fresh spawns and established clans. I get why they added ladders but this needs to be balanced, maybe we could reduce the cupboard area and make ladders placeable only out of building privileges, making rock bases still accessible. This wouldn't solve the elevator bases problem, but would make it better gameplay wise.
My opinion on ladders is there are too many posts about them.
my opinion about ladders is now people will build tons of overhangs and barricade and put their loot as high as possible, and i will just build a raid tower like usual and jump straigth on top. ladders or not, doesnt matter. as for my base, same, ladder or not, it doesnt rely on height, and still can stand a few nights without getting raided.
I don't like ladders, if they have to be in the game i think that they shouldnt bypass building block.... its a block so why bypass it? Makes raiding too easy
I am just going to weigh in here a tiny bit. Ladders IMO should be severely nerfed. I'd say allow them to snap to rocks within a cupboard area, but not onto walls. That will allow you to get to those rock bases, but it wont allow people to raid bases so easily. They have successfully destroyed the population on my server. I've lost over half of my population since they released the ladder. Within the first night, 3/4 of the bases were raided. They just make raiding bases too easy.
I don't like ladders, if they have to be in the game i think that they shouldnt bypass building block.... its a block so why bypass it? Makes raiding too easy
because the TC was never implemented to stop raiding, it was to stop griefing.
the ladder isn't just a raiding tool though. the issue is it changes the way we play the game, because now it's not just about being tall and whining about raid towers. IMO the cupboard needs to go sooner rather than later before people get the misunderstanding that "cupboards are there to protect them from raiding" too ingrained. the ladders will be fine once the cupboards no longer block everything else.
