Holy shit, I'm actually kind of amazed. Rust just took the top spot from Dayz in terms of sales on Steam, Rust is now #1!

It seemed the popularity of this has taken them by surprise.
Hopefully this extra revenue can be used to optimise the game a bit as currently I can't play.

The game needs more players - the current issue is server slots to players, we have enough servers for over 400,000 players - yet we don't even have a quarter of that playerbase

Not really, but it is on the scroll of the main Steam page.
Actually there were like 5 write ups from popular gaming sites this week, PC Gamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, Kotaku, etc..., they were all mostly positive so that is probably contributing.

i think garry said in the future, there would be more hosts to rent servers from. this is where they get a lot of their income from, so i doubt they're gonna limit the ability to rent servers. $$$ talks.
