EAC patched walking through walls cheat but are they going to ban the people that used it? - Rust

You decided to profit off FP's work, and now want some kind of moral defense -- but you ruined quite a few nights for quite a few people. You know, I've been going back and forth about this issue with meowkitty and the cheat he made, sold, and then reported to EAC. I try and put myself in his shoes, and while I'm not sure if I would have charged people for the cheat and not just sent the info the EAC, I don't think I can fault him for doing what he did. I mean, if he spent the time to create the cheat, then why not earn some money off of it. And when I think about it more, I'm glad the people that paid for it, used it, and then were banned (if that's the case) got doubly screwed. In fact, the notion that there's now the possibility of people deliberately selling cheats that will get you banned may help to dissuade more people from cheating because they don't know if the cheat they're getting is a trap. I think FP should hire someone that actually makes cheats for the game. Then when that cheat is used it notifies EAC or VAC. If there was a good chance that one of the cheats you were going to download was going to report you it might stop a lot of people from downloading cheats. At the least it might up the numbers of bans.

At the least it might up the numbers of bans.[/QUOTE] thank you, yea the selling was kind of wrong. the last part would be hard to do considering the large websites that create/sell make thousands and thousands of dollars weekly off of this so FP would have to pay a hefty penny. but so far eac and vac are doing a fairly decent job, not great but decent. if they would have scanned for words that are spamming in peoples consoles like prefabs/wall or something similar they could have atleast gotten a large list of people that they could flag for investigation before patching it, in theory.

Cheaters and people who develop exploits should be banned. Simple as that. If you want to run exploits on a personal server, that's your prerogative. But when you make that available to the public, you fuck up the game for a bunch of customers who actually paid for a fair game experience. I hope you get banned along with anyone else that distributes or uses 3rd party exploits.

I'm frankly amazed it still worked, I would have thought after it being in Legacy like a year ago there would be some protection by now against this. The only reason his cheat is even an .exe is to hide how fucking simple it is, it could be done with one line of shell script. He's nowhere near worthy of being hired to find cheats, he got lucky and found an old (VERY simple) exploit still worked and rode it. Mark my words, you will never, ever, see an original cheat being written by this assclown. I'd wager you never see another cheat from him again.

If the kid was decent, he would've just sent the vulnerabilities he found to EAC or FP. Good on him for reporting it post facto, after he'd taken money from his customers and wasted a ton of actual players' time, though sure -- he's extracted maximum personal benefit from each portion of the process as far as I can tell. Doing what's right after committing a crime doesn't cancel out the crime. Again, he always could've just reported the vulnerabilities. I'm not really an ends-justify-the-means-kind of a guy. EDIT -- also, we know the dude uses this shit too. His record isn't clean by any stretch, even excluding this particular fiasco.

Finding or creating an exploit and testing it then reporting to FP or EAC is one thing. The thing is, he SOLD this to a bunch of paying customers, then reported them. So he made money off of Rust by selling the exploit, then fucked over all the people that bought it by then reporting it. That just means he's both a cheater and a scammer.
