Alright, I don't think ladders make this game easy mode EXCEPT for the fact that you can wrap ladders around bases by putting them horizontal. This shit is looking like a ninja warrior obstacle course. Make ladders vertical or not at all. Shit makes no sense. That or make it so you have to prop them against the base instead of super gluing them.
That's my problem with ladders too. It's completely silly how ladders are sticky notes. There should be different length ladders that cost different and they would need a base to sit on. Maybe also have hook ladders that can grab onto ledges but no ladders sticking to walls.
[editline]31st May 2015[/editline]
Longer ladders should also only be able to be constructed on the spot.
Basic wood ladders can be a story high. Metal ladders that are collapsible can be two stories high.
Yea I spend most of my time at work up ladders and I wish it was as simple as it is on rust but no one wants to be going up high on some shitty wooden ladder never mind sticking them all over 5 story bases and clomping up them like you're some kind of monkey/Spider-Man hybrid
Not to mention, I know the rust devs pride themselves in keeping the game somewhat realistic, but tell me, how exactly do you grab a ladder thats stuck to a wall?

True ladders are unrealistic, just like toolcupboard - lets remove them both, agree? :D
I have already told that once.
I think ladders are great in concept. I'm ok with ladders being allowed where building is blocked. The post-it note characteristic of ladders allowing you to stick them anywhere, go around corners, etc is what's wrong with them and making them just too OP. There's no challenge in raiding anything with the ladders as they currently stand.
loot at this unrealistic ladder. how did they stick it up to the wall?

It's ONE tier 3 Metal ladder (out of 500 Metal frags) on your pics, and its vertical, like a normal ladder... nothing to do with the suggestion above you.
the only horizontal ladder I found....

It's a good thing I have that disabled on my server where it is building blocked :P

The dumb part is how you can jump around corners. You can't do that in real life.

Because this took less than 2 minutes to set up right? Aren't most of ladders like this built into the house itself for stability? As a raider it makes no sense for you to be able to set that up on a house you don't own.

Well yes, but if it was not actually stuck on the wall, or move able.
If it is a good game mechanic is another thing.

yeah... we need to be really careful talking about construction realism when we can build a wall in 1 second, and "upgrade it" to an armoured wall in another second. the point is that ladders like above can exist, and it makes sense for them to be placeable like this in rust.
the problem is balancing where they can be placed, and how far they can reach. for example, horizontal ladders don't really make any sense, but a vertical ladder on a rock face does. the other problem is balancing the cost:benefit ratios.

Take what I said about realism with a grain of salt. I know there's a lot of things that aren't realistic in the game but necessary to make game play smooth and enjoyable. You would agree that most things in the game of Rust are pretty reasonable in comparison to real life right? I feel like ladders fall into the category of "things that should be realistic" because they are not unreasonable in the real world

In all honesty, I don't even care if you can stick ladders to walls. Can we just not have them diagonal, horizontal, etc... This is where we are crossing into the realm of stupid. I think it's weird how the devs decided to allow this kind of mechanic. Maybe they are giving everyone worst case scenario to try and figure out how to scale it back. In my eyes the current ladders don't even feel like they belong in Rust.

Actually, I suspect this may be the case.

As someone who works in the electrical industry (auditing) your picture greatly distresses me :v:
Lets finish that with the easiest solution: Lets have a raiding, and a builiding ladder. Raiding ladder is the one you explained.

I don't think we need ladders to have their own categories lol. If they want to do tiers based on BPs or materials that's more reasonable to me.

Damn that jokes about americans are so true. :D U don't like ladders, cause probadly u get raided often cause u can't design a base - UNREALISTIC, FIX IT!
Then we have a Toolcupboard, with fantastic magic power that block you from building anything - NECESSARY GAME FEATURE, LEAVE IT!
Please stop that "realism" bulshit, cause its all about u get mad cause u get raided. U are using "realism" argument when u need it to prove ur point, but if u actually like something unrealistic
(magic Toolcupboard) its just NECESSARY GAME FEATURE.
Combo of ladders and toolbcupboards works great, game its actually balanced now. In Legacy defence against raid was even weaker, we have much more building posiblities and toolcupboards now. If u want to delete or nerf ladders, to keep balance u need also to delete or nerf toolcupboards.

I'm sorry if your parents are ladders or something and I've offended you to the point of rating everything I've said as dumb. It was insanely easy to raid people before ladders were added so I'm not sure where you are coming from with this whole balance issue. This addition of ladders feels more like hand holding than anything else. Ladders are a good solution to raiding huge groups with tons of real estate but a huge detriment to people that are unable to have the same resource investment. I also never said the tool cupboard was a good feature, that's off topic.
Maybe i rated something dumb, cause i think something is dumb? My parents are stones.

So where is the problem? Seems like nothing change to you, if raiding was sooo easy already. ;]
And btw "Mr. Realims" what is more unrealistic sticky ladders or huge raiding towers and alt+f4 to not get fall dmg? :D

Problem being, now people without creativity can even raid. Don't get me wrong, you can do some creative stuff with ladders, game just feels more linear now that it can be "see base - place ladder - unga bunga"
I also never said the game had to be 100% realistic but you can see the devs try to at least keep it somewhat honest. Also, unrelated, but you marked my post dumb when it was a comment about a guy placing a ladder onto power lines, like what? lol :suicide:
