• Mac Client Unplayable?
    3 replies, posted
For weeks I've been trying to get into Rust but unfortunately my only computer is a moderately specced iMac from 2011 running Mavericks (8 Gb RAM, AMD 6970M, 3.1 Ghz i5 core sandy bridge) and I have not been able to actually play the game. The splash screen loads up, I select a server, and I get stuck on the "loading gui" or "waiting for character" screen, yet i hear the game sounds and assume it is running. After about 20 minutes the game still doesn't respond, forcing me to force quit it. Yes, I've tried using "Fastest" graphics settings (I was told it might fix the issue) but it makes no difference. I've tried joining many different community and official server but to no avail, I'm positive it's not my Internet as it works for just about every other online game. It's frustrating, as I spent $20 for a game I can't even play, any other Mac users experiencing similar issues or found a solution? Maybe Facepunch shouldn't advertise the game for Mac if the OS X client is unplayable for many? Any tips would be welcome, thanks for reading.
Get Windows.
"OSX freezes seemingly at random and the FPS is quite terrible" is in the Priority column of the devs' Trello. You bought into an alpha; alphas are works in progress. The game isn't even finished, and OS X has unique bugs and problems that don't show up in the Windows version, which doesn't make it any easier. Things should improve over time.
Get Windows.
Yeah, Bootcamp on this computer gives me problems and I don't have a native Widnows machine, I realize Macs aren't for gaming but I have no other option right now until I save up money to build a PC. Sigh, I guess I'll just go play StarBound.
