• Gather Rate.... what do you prefer?

I've owned modded servers (legacy and New) for over three years. Gather rate has always been an issue because it has it's problems regarding attracting players. I've always tried to gear my servers to have a fair balance between raiders and builders. With a high gather rate, after about 3 days...people have a ridiculous amount of C4 and every base on the map has been raided. I hate this, and I see a lot of players not coming back. At the same time, I don't want to turn the gather rate down so far that it takes 4 days to armor a two story base. I'm just wondering what people who play on modded servers prefer. I want my players to be happy, but I also do not want it to be super easy to get resources. I've never have had my gather rate super low, but I really don't think it's fair for someone to have 300 C4 just a few days after a wipe either. You're thoughts on this would be very much appreciated.
I'm running an unmodded server and honistly, no one ever complaind about too low gather rates. :)
I've played on a lot of modded severs legacy and new rust 20x is to much 20 HQM a node is to over powerd I feel about 5x is the right amount of gather where it's not enought to make a big difference
Yeah, mine is about 5x as well right now.... kinda happy medium.
Well Rosie maybe just lower it a bit more and see what happens. I agree that as it is people on Rust Addicts; tend to either raid the crap out of everyone or leave due to the fact that they cannot survive there. I love increased gathering rates myself but maybe split the difference and see what happens. -The great and awesome Rambo!
I also have been running a server for quite a few years and I am currently using Z levels. As it stands using multipliers can vastly change the balance, it is very tricky on how you adjust them. Z levels allows me to make adjustments in almost any form. Now, I use a x2-x500 multiplier spread across 50 levels. Each levels gives you a % increase based upon the resource, but when reaching lvl 25 & 50 gives an xtra small % increase. As well, if you suicide or are killed it will penalize you by taking away a % from your experience. I have this set on ultra high on suicide and about 15% on death On your C4 issue, use the plugin called quick smelt and adjust the charcoal. This will slow down the production real fast as they cannot produce enough coal to make gun powder
That actually sounds interesting lordrush.
i think Vanilla is pretty balanced, BESIDES the super slow rock gathering at the start, i mean yeah of course a stone shouldnt be a good tool but in my oppinion it takes faaar to long to get the basic stuff together and then getting killed by a random bow guy. repeat that 5 times and you tried to get tools for about an hour, thats really the only rant i have atm everythings fine beside that.
I talked to to a guy who ran a server and he said he was able to adjust every item in the game. C4, rockets, and AK BPs were really really rare.
No matter what the gather rate is, people that play more will have bigger bases and more C4 and rockets. The problem is that each layer of honeycomb protects the base against one more set of charges, but costs exponentially more, while C4 costs stay constant. The only way to balance building vs. raiding is, as the defender, to start on a new base every time you have enough C4 to raid a base that size. Build a collection of buildings - not one big building. Half a dozen buildings that cost six C4 to raid are WAY cheaper to build than one building that costs 36 C4 to raid. The only thing harvesting rate affects is how fast you get to the point that adding another layer of honey comb is a waste of time.
just make x5 then All you really have to do is control animal fat if that is a smaller gather rate the c4 will take some time
A while ago I played on a server that had the Sulfur and metal set to half the gather rate of the servers actual gather rate. This slowed down raiding a little bit, but those big clans and the people that play a lot still always end up with way more c4 then they need. You could leave the gather rate at 5x but lower the gather rate of Sulfur down to 2x or 3x
