We need a late game item that improves gameplay without interfering too much with other people, but gives us something to grind our butts off. My suggestion: Motorcyle Cost: 750 Low Quality Metal 250 Leather 250 Low grade fuel 50 High grade fuel (Rare pattern) Moves at 300-500% movement speed (server configurable) Can't be stolen, or operated by anyone other than owner If destroyed, spawns in your inventory after your next respawn
No. Just no. Vehicles are not a bad idea but this is NOT the way to go about implementing them. A decent example would be finding special vehicle parts as rare drops that cannot be researched or crafted. You can find single-use blueprints for vehicles (an even rarer drop) as well. Vehicles might include something like a quad that is very very loud when started and can fit two people. It might have its own pack as well. It can be driven by anyone, so it must be hidden. It would move at approximately double the current sprint speed, and be filled with low grade fuel. A gas meter would be shown on the dash (as well as a speedometer). I cannot stress just how rare this kind of thing needs to be. Rarer than the current bolt action, and NOT learnable.
I like the idea of quads. They would fit perfectly in.
I like the idea of quads. They would fit perfectly in.
A beautiful example would be a more rustic version of the current Flash in PlanetSide 2. Very loud, has the right meters, and one player drives while the other sits on the back and can shoot. Obviously it needs to have the Firefly-esque style applied though, as the Flash is very futuristic. It needs lots of mud and rust, and maybe the glass cover for the speedometer could be cracked.

It should be a special thing that would only happen after you're well established.
I like OP's suggestion except that after it has been destroyed it will move into ur inventory.. That would make it somewhat too easy and not even a challenge anymore. I also don't see how this would do any bad to the other players, it's definetaly not overpowered as it will only be used to travel faster to certain places, if a friend can join on the back it would ofcourse be very hard to shoot from it - due the speed and bobbling from the motorcycle it will be barely possible to shoot from it. Also anyone who see it can easily kill the people on it as they have no protection at all ( maybe make a motorcycle helmet thingy that prevents headshots on the motorcycle )
How about this?
How about this?
I was waiting for someone to post something about a weak bike. I wouldn't mind, but I can't fathom how to balance this... It doesn't require fuel, and it's pretty silent... Maybe it burns calories really fast?

I'd really like to see a dune buggy, but I'd settle for a motorcycle.
Have you ever even been on a bike? It should burn calories less faster since you require less energy.
We need to balance it somehow, man.
not needed right now maybe in far far future.
We need to balance it somehow, man.
Well, it's slower than a motorcycle and probably makes noise due to squeaky gears. It would be very slow in the grass or uphill, and you can't shoot from it. Basically, you'd be very vulnerable and only go marginally faster than running.

In my opinion, if they ever add vehicles, you should have to acquire each individual part which would be super rare in it's own right.

when map gets done (and roads) than some sort of transport should be ok.. i personally would love so much they put in horses.. think they suits rust environment just perfect..
The primary reason I want transportation is so we can use the rediculous amount of unused area on the map. You can't tell me 750 low quality metal and 250 low grade fuel would be easy to farm. You'd also constantly need to supply it with high grade fuel. And it should look really rustic and be loud as hell so people could hear it from all over.
I feel like they should add horses. They aren't to fast, They fit in the atmosphere. (if it were op you could also force the player to feed it or else it wont move very fast)

There won't be as much "wasteland" as there is now. And I don't know about anyone else, but I've run across pretty much the entire map as it is. I use those parts that often go unused, because there is far less chance of someone stumbling across my shelters out there than in the midst of all of the resources.

It helps prevent raids, since your average player is not going to venture that far around the map, or at least that far from resources. It may take some extra time running back and forth to ferry loot or resources but the tradeoff for the less chance of losing it all is good.
If you want transportation in a game like this, I would suggest animals. Horses are a good example.
