• Current State of Rust: Play to win

Rust at the moment is a play to win game. What I mean by that is that if you are not on 24/7, you will get raided on any official server (I play on Rustafied.com). Example: I am sitting in my wood house(not twig) with two doors with both code locks, with a tool cupboard. I leave for an hour to watch a tv show. When I come back, I am dead, and can't respawn in sleeping bag because it has been destroyed. Another Example: I left to play with my brother for FIFTEEN minutes, sitting in my 3 full wood walls, 3 codelocks, metal doors, and when I come back, dead, raided. I went back to both houses, completely stripped except for a few foundations left. I am not mad nor am I complaining, I just hope people can help me find a way to get past this time barrier that is so hard to overcome.
But... all video games are play to win.
mmm, how about getting those stone walls ? did you built too big and made your house a big target ? was your house close to one of the rad town ? the fun in rust is trying to avoid raiders, and its hard to do. just build smart. no base is unraidable. the key is to either make your house inpenetrable, or make the raiders look away by building hidden or make your house look like it doesnt even worth the effort to raid
eh raiding is just made way too easy with no risk atm. Balancing will come someday.
~snip~ nevermind. I was stoned.am. w/e. carry on.
You clearly dont understand the concept of pay to win....
He said PLAY to win, not pay..... @OP, Raiding at the moment is way too easy. Also as mentioned above, it does sound like you are building too big/near a rad town/in the open. Go for a small base that is hidden, even if you have to run for a few minutes to get to resources. Facepunch is still busy balancing the game so give it time. IMO legacy's raiding was quite balanced, excluding for how cheap c4 was. But being only able to raid with c4 was a good choice. Being able to destroy a door now in under 30 seconds if two people hit it with a hatchet is a joke.
You should change it to "Stay to win", because is the core now, unless you build on caves.
This is how games work. I think you are slightly a moron.
Yea, what I really want is a game that plays itself. /s
maybe make a base with multiple floors, and have all your stuff near the top. take out the block/stairs on first floor and you pretty much make your base a little bit safer. Towers seem to be the best bet, put down tool cupboards as you go up, never put tool cupboards on first or second floor as they can be destroyed by taking out a wall or floor.
You also can't swing weapons/tools in the water. So essentially if you build in the water no one can even hit your building.
Bows.
True, you can shoot it from the shore with bows, ak's, or even the eoka, but it will take awhile. Our base has 2 layers of stone walls with a layer of wood 1/2 blocks between them, the first floor and 1/2 of the 2nd are underwater so even if you shot our the walls there would be no way to jump up out of the water to get in. Access to the base is through a stone building with 2 metal doors that lead to a walkway which we remove when we log off or go out for extended periods of time. The only person that got in our base was someone with a fly hack that flew in through an opening in the roof 5 stories up. However, they only killed my friend because I create empty spaces under stair cases and rotate the stairs to crawl in and sleep when I log off.
I agree, however they should balance raiding way more.
This week has favored raiders specifically with the addition of type-specific resource penalties. Ex: Using a hatchet on stone destroys the hatchet, and with no default pick, this makes gathering stone very difficult and making a better base even more difficult. the latest Rustafied post shows concept art for a stone pickaxe, which I think is fair to assume will be default. It's in the works.
if you play rust you get raided its part of life. you can build in water. you can build on top of stones. you can even build out of stone. nothing you do will stop someone who really wants your stuff. even if your on 24/7. if you make your house big and scary looking. your gonna scare off most small timers. but the more wealth you expose makes you a target for the more professional raiders who work in groups. so no matter what you do your screwed. my advice make lots of small caches. really wish we could make spider holes.
There is no end game, one does not 'win' at Rust. You have people who are easily bored that run around raiding and destroying everything they can. Others feel they must seek out conflict and get that PVP fix. I say to them, if you are bored, go play an action game. Right now the game isn't made to be won, it is an experiment in progress. I will be glad when the day comes that a raid is necessary to survive, instead of just boredom control. Then PVP can be used as the tool it is meant to be, to defend and survive. Right now with the state of the game, the Russians or Koreans or whomever just wait for you to log off, then use 3rd person too look into your base to find the easiest way in, then expend minimal effort against weak buildings and poof, you are toast (or they just hack). Either that or there are groups that run rabid on the maps at night and their sole purpose is to destroy while giggling madly, and seeing who can brag to the others the most. Not every game is a competition. I wish there were a better way to verify age when purchasing the game. I also wish that people would take the time to read the game description. Neither of those will happen. We need something temporary or permanent to help these poor, bored individuals feel that they need to 'win Rust'. There was talk of a "Doomsday Device" that would wipe the server once it went off. This, to me, is a perfect solution. It gives the boredom prone folks a goal, a win. So they can brag and talk crap and say generic things like 'rekt' and 'u mad bru' Etc. One side would fight to wipe, the other side would fight to not wipe and keep power. Finally, a win/lose situation. It also keeps power on a server balanced as there will always be new players to join the struggle for each side, and the side that completes the goal will always change. Sometimes it will be a wipe, sometimes it won't. Combine this with procedural, random mapping, and boom, it is a winner. Personally I can play without ever needing to attack or raid, and still being nice to the others on the server. I will so happy when the day comes that I need to raid to survive, and that I need to defend the resources I have scraped together. I don't care if people raid my homes because at the end of the play session, I just swim off and kill myself in deep water. Bases are empty. I can gather and craft enough to build and hunt in 15 minutes. EAC and Facepunch are doing a decent job trying to keep up with hackers, but it is the simple exploits and weakness of buildings, along with no end game that draw the worst common denominator to the game. Very few however take the time to look at what a beautiful game that this is. They buy it, jump right in and start begging for guns and asking how to play. Instant PVP, with no time spent to build or look around.
I agree, however they should balance raiding way more.
Saying the devs should do something that they are actively doing and have stated they are constantly changing and considering makes you look like a bit of a jackass.
