Fairly new to rust. Was playing mostly solo, and recently convinced a friend to join in. We built a base together but can not place sleeping bags in the same base. Error message "can't build this close...."
My question is, is this a server setting? Because I have played in other servers where I had no problem placing a sleeping bag in a house (built by someone else) in which I was invited to stay.

There is a mod or 2 that block this. Try /sleepover or see if there is a group mod.

Sounds like a server setting.
There is a server mod that prevents placing sleeping bags close to other people's bases. This is to counter the sleeping-bag glitch which people exploit to spawn into people's bases.
I haven't played on one of these servers, but I think this mod has a setting to grant friends permission to place sleeping-bags in your base. not sure how that works though, sorry.
