So Im trying to set up a private server that I can make base designs on but whenever I make the server I get on but I have to restart to give myself moderator/owner and whenever I restart the server I can no longer connect to it I can "steam auth timed out" I have removed all the cmd files and repeated the same thing twice and have gotten the same results
anyone?
You have made sure to have both port 28015 (if your using default) and 28016 forwarded and open in the firewall? On having to restart to give yourself admin/owner are you then adding your id to the file directly? If you are you can go into the console and type "ownerid <steamID>" to add yourself without needing a restart ( you still have to leave and join tough!)

Also I can connect to it before i restart so the ports are fine, In the console do you mean the server console or rust console thanks.
Server console, How do you connect, using the rust console command "client.connect" or finding it in the server list?
Server console, How do you connect, using the rust console command "client.connect" or finding it in the server list?
I connect in rust console "Client.connect localhost:28015"
Then my question is, can you see the server in the server list as port 28015 is used to connect, but 28016 is used to communicate with steam (including the server browser)

Yes but the port 28016 is used to communicate with steam (Auth, reporting eg) As long as you don't forward 28015 people will not be able to connect
just whitelist your server

Thanks for the help you have provided above aswell.
It's a bug with the current server version and the steam service it seems. type global.ownerid xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx followed by writecfg, to save yourself from restarting / reconnecting. Open up task manager and restart all the steam related services to remove the auth issue.
