As the tittle says
Let’s end the Ladder discussion.
(I know I posted this in a thread but I figured why not give it its own thread to hopefully end the discussion)
I am not looking for replies to this thread as I would like to see it die off along with all the other annoying 'I Hate Ladders' threads
So, I give you the ShackledFrogs 3 point guide to defending against ladders in rust
The 3 easiest ways to stop people from using ladders on your base.
1. Put up signs. You cannot place a ladder on a sign. The sign will also work as an extra layer of defence against raiders as they will have to hack through it. You can use the sign as camouflage (paint it white in the snow, dumb I know but it works)
2. Put over hangs on your base. Yes they can be hacked through or blown up but so can everything else. It will just add extra time and resources to the raider.
3. Do both 1 and 2
There you have it.
Congratulations on a completely useless thread, I'm glad another, completely legitimate thread, got pushed off the first page so that you could tell us what we should be discussing. Thank you so much!
Yeah those suggestions aren't going to stop anyone from raiding for very long so I declare that the discussion continues.

Raiding will never stop. It is what Rust is all about.
My suggestions were to help detour people from raiding your base

Yeah but they won't detour anyone from raiding your base. Every single base now has had those suggestions since the patch and are still very easily raided with ladders.

Never said it would. I said those things are pretty useless and have been very well known since even before the patch so there's no reason at all to stop the ladder discussion. Not sure why you think your suggestions are new or something and that it would end the discussions about ladders. Practically every single base I've raided and have seen other people raid have all that incorporated into there bases and raiding is still easier than ever. Only problem I face now is actually finding a base that hasn't been raided.
How about the simple solution: add some counterplay. Having to tunnel vision base design sucks. No longer are you creatively free to design as you wish, now all rust buildings must look like something out of feudal japan.
Honestly, all they need to do is either change ladders to be more physically real and tier-adhering, or create some sort of anti-ladder wall that would cost more resources to produce as to need strategic selective placement.
Either way, these threads are pointless. Garry is not an idiot, he sees the feedback, and takes it all into account. Bear in mind ladders are a very novel addition. Let them age and sink in, the balancing will be seamless. :)
Yea, Zippy, he didn't start a useless thread on a forum to start a conversation. He did it to end one!
It's not like he already posted this same suggestion in one of the existing ladder threads.
Shackledfrog, this isn't the end all, be all suggestion you think it is. The problem that people have with ladders is way deeper than you seem to understand. There is an entire sect of people who are livid their rock bases are now raidable.
No, the "problem" with ladders is that some people get really butthurt that someone can get to an upper floor of their base ... as if they couldn't before (siege towers, anyone?). Apparently these people want an "off" switch to the ladders so they can be "defeated". In reality, ladders are a tool that get people to higher floors. That's it. Build your base accordingly and understand that you can and will get raided.
What's so hard about that?

All the developers have to do is to figure out an ingenious way to figure out how to balance this. It's all up to them, and us to help give them the information they need to make this choice. It'll all be balanced. It'll all be great. In the near future, this game will get better. Here are my suggestions on the ladder problem.
1. Make the ladders something that still aren't building blocked, you just can't place on other people's bases. This balances the random climbing of other's bases, and you can still get to those ¨unraidable¨ rock bases. You can now get up there to c4, instead of magically climbing up the whole base magically.
2. Make the ladder's that are in now, building blocked. You can put it in your own base, go up rocks that have no bases. This just takes out the ability to place ladders on any base you want, but now there are literally ¨unraidable¨ rock bases. They could balance this by making building blocks only foundation up. This causes many issues, and I prefer #1.
3. Keep the ladders in now, reskin them to be a salvaged fire escape, make them building blocked, and have another kind of ladder. This ladder is like the ladder from The Lord of The Rings/medieval times where a few people help to lift up a reaaaally long ladder and leans it with a ¨BAM¨ on the side of the building. The people then climb up this ladder. The defenders can now kick/hit the ladder so it falls back out. Hell they could even add hot tar buckets to throw down on raiders. This ladder would have to be placed on ground level, so these ladders can only get to the top of the rock of rock bases, and you would have to place c4 on the doors, instead of using ladders to get to the top. This is an alternative to the situation now. Not just putting a bandaid on it.

What's magical about a ladder?
What they need to do is make the ladders free standing, so that they get leaned against an object instead of sticking to them. They should also react to ground terrain: if they aren't placed on level ground, they'll be more likely to fall. I suspect this is in the works already -- almost like this game is in alpha, or something.
What's magical about a ladder?
Maybe it owns a hat and pulls a rabbit out of it.
It's magical because you can put them sideways, stack hundreds of them up as if they were sticky notes, and they don't really abide to physics.
I really like your idea. But they shouldn't just be able to climb an entire base vertically, it just makes no sense.

Yeah, I think this is in the works. Everything that has ever been added to Rust gets added, tweaked, re-tweaked, countered, un-countered, tweaked some more, and so on. As a result I can't get too worked up over ladders. They are what they are; they'll improve with time.
