"Lighting" not working = torch does not SHED actual light

Know what I mean? What I mean is NOT that my torch is not "working"; it lits and its flame blazed as a 2d-animation, and its' duration goes down - however, it does not generate any ACTUAL light onto my surroundings. Same with other light-sourches. Except the sun ofcourse. I have graphics on max. Have tried sliding the 'render quality'-slider.
