https://trello.com/c/o1vrf4vm/41-remake-the-furnace They need to just chop off the top about half way down and do like a stone smelting pot look. Or a stone circle with a smelting pot suspended in the middle. This looks horrible imo.
Aside from it having improved texture, I agree, just saw it today and was thinking the same thing.
With all the shit that needs attention they made a new furnace? lol
To be honest working on this has been tricky compared to the other assets.
Maybe at least make it a square.
With all the shit that needs attention they made a new furnace? lol
Now I feel bad for agreeing that it looked like bear poop! I don't think it looks like bear poop. I just don't love the shape of it, but I like the texture. That said, I have no idea what a stone furnace should look like!
Should look like a pizza oven, a stone iglo...
With all the shit that needs attention they made a new furnace? lol
What do you think Dan should be working on?

Custom made furnace: http://www.warehamforge.ca/ironsmelting/LAM/Vinland2/report10-09.html
I also feel my $20 was already well spent and didn't mean to step on toes. I will be happy either way. edit
What do you think Dan should be working on?
Don't honestly know who Dan is. If he's a general Dev: Get rid of that stupid rock glitch.. tired of getting killed without being able to shoot back. If he's just an art dev, you can tell him I love the look of the game.. Keep working on new item models! Sidenote: the current forge doesn't look like a real stone forge, but honestly I don't think anyone really cares.. BUT if you did cut the height in half, people would complain about not being able to use it to jump onto buildings.
Dan should be working on new items and building parts, textures can wait honestly. Rust looks good enough it just needs more content. The new furnace looks a bit more realistic but it does look a little generic.
I guess that's what the junk-launcher shoots

yeah the climbing part I didn't think of, good point.
Its at least more realistic. The game has to be as realistic as possible i quess.
What do you think Dan should be working on?
/me looks up Dan's trello profile: He could work to smile a bit more :D
What do you think Dan should be working on?
I agree with him... Why new furnace? Old one does its thing what it has to do. Make new building parts, defending materials, new weapons, fix cheats etc... But a new furnace? lol.
Less round rocks more flat ones. The chimney can be round stones stacked. Where the ore / wood would be needs to be squarer. That would make it more like the link here http://www.warehamforge.ca/ironsmelting/LAM/Vinland2/report10-09.html
Honestly, I really like the old one. The new one looks decent, but why do we need a new one when the old one looks fine? Is it from the asset store or something?
What do you think Dan should be working on?
rabbit meat, deer meat, wolf meat, bear meat ???
rabbit meat, deer meat, wolf meat, bear meat ???
seriously? I actually think it would be a nice long running joke if they kept all meat as chicken. So many people expect so many different things to be done first. Its like no one realizes their priorities aren't the same as everyone's.

Should be a no-brainer. Can't just say Dan should make new models for items that don't even exist yet, because they will require a ton of coding to implement into the game, and Dan apparently (I'm assuming) works on art assets not coding.
What do you think Dan should be working on?
Whatever the hell you say he should be working on - you're the boss :)

Remember the patrol helicopter? that's been done for a while but where is it? You guys seem to think they are taking days and days to complete these little things like this. Dan and Tom the two guys i see on the art trello. Have been doing a lot of different textures and completing them relatively fast (in my eyes). They aren't spending multiple days on just the furnace. I see what your saying and sort of agree. The problem is your driving force for making this decision is based on you want more stuff to do. They need to just get all the stuff in the game the way they want it. Maybe they don't want to half ass everything now, so they're trying to complete the things that are already in the game before they start adding all these other new items and then have so many "old" textures on their hands he spends months redoing them all. Remember a lot of the things in the game are pre-made default textures from the unity engine, not things they necessarily even designed themselves. Of course this is all my opinion i don't know for sure, but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
More of an igloo shape maybe? Or a pizza oven shape with a more prominent smoke stack?
What do you think Dan should be working on?
Honestly, whatever YOU think he should be working on. You are creating the game and I am happy with the direction you guys are headed. That being said, I do agree that "new" assets should take priority, considering new content will keep the long running players happy. Functional items would be even more beneficial... ladders, murderholes, traps, canopies, drawbridges etc. Stym's posts are what I want! http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1354611
It looks like a home made furnace. Which id say is about right.
Flatter stones. I like the new model for the furnace. And expecting an art dev to be working on other things that's not art is really unrealistic unless he's like a master of trades or something. So keep up the good work, Dan.
LOL
why not use miniature version of these?
