Hello,
I have been playing this game for about five days. Since the first day that I started playing there has been this odd stuttering movement for any player, animal, or rolling object (loot bags). It looks like every 1/2 a second the player teleports instead of smoothly walking. I thought it was lag but that was proven wrong when my brother started playing on the same connection without issue. So I know it must be something with my computer specifically. I played on an empty server and found that zombie movement looked normal, so it seems the problem something to do with player amount. Once again though, my brother on the same populated server on the same connection has no issue, so I still believe it is not a latency issue. I tried the fix in which you disable realtek audio. This worked for my friend but not me ( it is still disabled though). My specs are Below:
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
6 Gigs of Ram
CPU: Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601960
Video Card: MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed the stuttering?
Have you updated your gpu drivers?
Drivers are up to date but same problem
Just curious if you just updated I would reboot the pc then try again
Yes I rebooted
What method of connection are you using? Wireless adapter or Ethernet?
Ethernet. I do not believe its connection related just because my brother who is playing on the same connection is running fine.
Same problem for me.
Probably server lag.
Are you in australia? most of our servers suck arse.
No its not any sort of connection lag. My brother on the same connection is running fine.
did you read about this?

could be the majority of your issues.
Going to bump this seeing as the problem still exist. I repeat, this has nothing to do with ddos or lag or any connection problem. My brother plays on the same connection and server as I do with no problems. I imagine its a problem similar to that of realtek audio cards causing periodic freezes.
Might be FPS issues? if so, try turning the grass off, typing grass.on false
that should work to alleviate the situation.
I do not believe this is an fps issue. I've run the game on both fastest and beautiful graphical settings without a problem (besides the stuttering still existing). I do run grass.on false but that doesn't seem to change anything. Everything looks great besides player and animal movement.
anything anyone suggests on here wont work because its not on our end its the game itself. you can ask almost anyone and they will probably have the same issue, its not cause of the ddos attacks because it was doing it long before the attack started happening.
I have the same issue as you do. Other players studder a lot on my screen. It's like they are teleporting a few feet at a time instead of it being smooth, sometimes they teleport around 5 feet, which makes it hard to shoot them when they zig-zag. I'm guessing it's a game problem, my friend has the same issue. I run the game at 30+ FPS. So that is fine.
Did you guys try turning off the grass? Open console with F1, type in "grass.on false" and "grass.displacement false" and most of the time that reduces lag.
That mostly improves FPS more then lag i think. And yes i do, and i think he already stated that he does.
I have the same problem. please someone help us :c.
Im pretty sure those are just lagg spikes. Quite common in rust, even though they normally happen all 5-8 seconds.
So if it happens more often something is off.
Else its totally normal. Annoying but normal.
If it's not lag or FPS issues, it could be a Internal Issue. Like a bug in the path finding code, Or could simply be missing core features like the Spline algorithm.
There is basic path finding
Then there is Spline which is an advanced form of path finding.
I just got Rust and I also have this issue.
Game runs very smooth, but for some reason anything that moves server-side is very stuttery. Animals, Zombies, Players, Airplanes, Supply drops, Doors, Grenades, etc. No frame-rate problems and client-size actions are also fine. Bow and axe animations are smooth.
I also noticed that when something moves with this stutter it doesn't have the moving animations. Like the deer will still be stutter-grazing while running away from me, instead of running/leaping away.
Lastly, there was a moment when the stutter went away and everything moved so nice an smooth. This lasted only a minute and I don't know what changed to cause it.
Specs: (I know my poor computer is old)
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz
8 Gigs of ram
Nvidia Geforce 560 Ti
Installed on 120Gb Samsung SSD.
Windows 8.1
Cable internet ~ 50Mbps connected via ethernet. (Asus N66U router fwiw)
Hopefully this helps others know they aren't alone. :)
Edit:
Server ping was around 120ms. Was late at night, only 5-6 players on. Friend I was playing with had no issues.

same here... especially that part, lags are more rare than for you though.
Any1 figured this out?
same issue here
F1, then type:
grass.on false
gfx.all false
gfx.ssaa false
Set graphics to:
Fastest
That should help with Fps. But likely it's a lag issue. If so,I'd close any other programs (internet explorer, origins, anythign that uses internet connection besides rust). This simply because sometimes rust servers are just unreliable for stable gameplay
Are you guys playing on servers with a large amount of buildings? It will do this... otherwise try the options sgt posted above.
Also, grab the beta drivers for your graphics card. AMD and Nvidia have them.
It's lag you get people with high pings coming into servers to try get advantage
Agreed, I noticed that today. It's VERY bad with all the auto-builders as well. They make unbelievably big building, and worse, very tall buildings. The game takes time loading ever single thing. So it doesn't help that the buildings fade out of vision after a couple yards, and you have to constantly reload it. It's not like it sees it as one giant building, it sees it as 100 foundations, 1000 pillars, 400 walls, 400 doors, ect ect. It loads a lot of stuff. So with multiple auto-builders doing this, it can really drag down your FPS. I have computer that can handle 2014 games and most games on ultra. But yet again this game is still in Alpha.[QUOTE=infusednz;44660725]Are you guys playing on servers with a large amount of buildings? It will do this... otherwise try the options sgt posted above.
