Terrible FPS on a decent machine? - Rust

Title really says it all, might have to do with 8.1 Specs are as follows : Nvidea GeForce GTX 770M (3GB of RAM) 12 GB of RAM Intel i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz Windows 8.1 64 bit Any help my buddy is sitting next to me running this fine while mine computers over here spraying shit in my face [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] This is when i choose to run on fastest as well as using the no grass option i'm still running around 10 fps [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] Also running on fastest

You have to remember that Rust in is EARLY alpha development and is NOT optimized. I have the following and runs on 40 fps. Nvidia Geforce 650 8gb ram 6 core 3.8

i just figured with a machine like mine something has to be causing it not a hardware issue

It's not hardware issue. There is nothing you can do about it. The game is not optimized and even less on Windows 8 I would say.

No, there's something wrong. He shouldn't be getting 10 FPS on that rig. I'm running a GTX 780, i7-4770k, 16GB of RAM, and getting 60 on everything maxed. He may not get 60, but 10 on lowest doesn't sound right.

the problem might be that the game is not using nvidia gpu, but using the intel igp instead which just sucks for gaming. so you have to force the game to use nvidia gpu to get the performance out from it

Once I forced Rust to use my Nvidia card I was running at about 40 FPS as opposed to the former 15 FPS.

When you're in game, press F1 to open console. Then type "grass.on false" (without parenthesis) and "grass.displacement false" and see if that helps at all. :)

Do what people above say. Also, open up NVIDIA Control Panel and in 3D settings switch Max Pre-rendered Frames to 1, turn off anti-aliasing-FXAA, set V-sync to be controlled by application, switch preferred GPU to be your Nvidia card, CUDA - GPU set to All, and enable Threaded Optimisation. Also make sure the game is running in the recommended resolution.

@Sam5467 check your game is running in DirectX11 aka add -force-d3d11 to the startup properties. in all likely hood your horrible performance is liked due to the fact the game is detecting memory for the intel GPU instead of your Geforce and thus restricting itself. but try adding that argument for launching the game first.

@Sam use this on steam launch options = -force-feature-level-9-3 -nolog -force-feature-level-11-0 I have windows 8.1 aswell and i get 50/60 fps steady i7 aswell and a geforce gt 635m What the other ppl suggested will also add to better performace of course! What i gave you is slightly more specific to windows 8.1 users

Hmmm, might be the fact that Rust is experiencing a DDos constant attacks which is causing serious issues. I wouldn't worry about FPS issues until the attacks are resolved.

Honestly it's an alpha, they'll first it sooner or later. Just be patient.
