There comes a time when we have no use for stone tools; but they will pile up due to barrel farming, newman hunting, raiding, etc etc. Perhaps you have an overload of metal tools as well, why not have a source to harvest these tools and get something out of them when you no longer have a need for them. Plop down a deconstruction table, and harvest 40% of the resources that wen't into making the tool, and have it scale based on durability and quantity of past repairs. Thoughts?
sounds good to me!
This has been suggested many times over the last several months. I think everyone agrees that a way to recycle items that are no longer needed for a percentage of the materials required to build them would be a welcome addition to the game. Whatever the mechanic used - table, toss items into a furnace, etc would be a great addition to the game.
But whether or not we'll see that is anyone's guess. I've seen this idea posted probably a dozen times since I've joined this forum in February and there has never been any mention from any official source of this type of functionality being considered for addition.
This could also work well with using it on clothes and weapons.
Yes. In my mind, anything you can craft in the game, you should be able to recycle for a portion of the materials required to build it.
Would be nice to at least turn unwanted clothes into bandages.
You could balance it even more by giving back the material amounts based on the item's condition. But I'd love to be able to take all the rocks and torches I end up with and trade them in for a little bit of wood and stones, even if it's ripping me off harder than the guy working the GameStop register.
Just add a disassemble/recycle button to the repair bench that gives you back the difference of the repair cost.
Also destroying constructions should give you some % of material back. It's already a thing on modded servers and it's rather good for both misplaced walls and for cleaning up the server. Also raiding a reinforced base and then disassembling it for metal is fun.
