Wood is a easy and nearby unlimited ressource. But why is it so important in Rust. Its curious that Wood is the only bottleneck in the Endgame. When you have a quarry and pumpjack the only reason to leave the compound is to farm wood. 2C4 need more than 7500 charcoal. That is a huge amount of wood. You need Wood for everything but it would be better when the other ressources like Metall,Sulfur and HQM would be the bottleneck for the endgame and not a primitive ressource like wood.
i agree, they could add a sawmill that can only be placed at rivers that produces more wood out of trees or something...

The whole resource balance has been messed up since Experimental came to be. First off, like you said, you need wood for just about everything from smelting to building to making guns, sleeping bags, cupboards, quarries and jacks, etc. It is by far the most used resource in Rust, yet it is also one of the most time consuming one to get.
I totally disagree with El Kapitan's suggestion of a mill or whatever other automated way of getting wood. We don't need more automation, we desperately need LESS automation because it is currently killing the game, making everyone stand AFK in their bases while the game play itself. Nothing should come free of effort, get your lazy ass out there and farm what you need, end of story.
On my server I run vanilla rates on rocks but I have a X2 boost on wood. This balances things pretty well (except for the charcoal issue, which I handled some other way).
The bigger problem is jacks though. These multiply resources of little to no effort and allow you to extract stone and ore virtually freely and effortlessly. This is bad in itself and the fact that groups can much more easily setup/find/protect these makes it another nail in the coffin of solo/small group play.
Bad mojo!!!
