I recently purchased Rust today and as soon as I started, I noticed that the game was really really dark. It was during the daytime too. I could barely see the ground and scenery in the game because it's so dark. When night rolls around, my screen is almost pitch black. Torches and fireplaces do nothing to help at all during both day and night. Other games I play on this computer are at a reasonable brightness as well. Is there a way to set the brightness in Rust? Does anyone else have this problem?
The lights are fine for most of the people i guess. The problem is on your screen options or something:)
I recently purchased Rust today and as soon as I started, I noticed that the game was really really dark. My computer screen is at max brightness, so it has to be the game though right?
There may be something wrong with your display or settings if you run at full brightness anyway,.. especially if its still too dark!
Nights are pretty dark, but that's intended, but the day is perfectly bright enough for most people without tweaking anything.
can you try another monitor or TV just to test?

I don't have another monitor or tv with me since I'm living in a dorm right now. Other games I play on this laptop are perfectly find to me. Is there a way to tweak it? The only settings I've found are graphical settings and render distance which I've played around with already.
Oh its a laptop.. is it in power saving mode or something which is causing the display to dim?

No, everytime I've played my laptop was running at full display brightness.
Simple fix, alot of people use this to see at night time.
1: goto Start menu and open Control Panel
2: Click on Appearance and Personalization
3: Click Display
4: Click Calibrate Color (Admin Rights Needed)
5: Hit 'Next' x3 and drag the gamma bar all the way up
Note: Dont press next, just keep it dragged up and when you're done playing, close the settings page.
It will go back to your previous settings.
Hope I helped!
i have no problem at all with darkness so im not sure why you do maybe its your display settings?:S ( unless its night then it should be dark for obvious reasons)
What's your gamma in screen options? 1 = The most lightnest, and more up you go more darker will come
No, everytime I've played my laptop was running at full display brightness.
I have exactly the same problem. I have a new laptop with an i5 processor and a decent graphics setup and I find myself thinking it is dusk only to glance up and see the sun directly overhead. My girlfriend recently came over and played the game with me and it looked soooo bright on her screen. I can adjust the gama of the entire computer and it seems to help but everything looks washed out and I'd rather not mess with the computer settings every time I play Rust. All other games have a great level of lighting on my computer so I am reasonably sure it has something to do with the game itself. The flashlight Mod also seems to have reversed polarity on all guns except the pistol for me. It makes things darker instead of brighter. I was wondering if this also happens to you as the two problems may be linked. Any input is appreciated
This is an interesting problem. It would be worthwhile for you to post a bug report in the Bug Reports subforum, and include your system specs. This would help make sure the developers know about it and help them to look into it in more detail.
I have posted the flashlight problem in the but report section but it got no responses so I am hoping to get some information here
I have the same problem. I notice the problem doesn't occur if I select the directx 9 option in the rust launcher (right after launching from steam, before you see the config dialogue box). I hope that helps but I also hope they fix this since I prefer to run the game in dx11. The graphics just seem a bit sharper.
Check your running rust at the native resolution of your monitor.
Also try pressing F2 in-game and play with the settings,i have almost all my special effects turned off.
