He kinds spins off and talks about how "everything came so easy" and about how much he got done in a certain amount of time, it makes me think that after liking Unity he looked for projects to make in it with his spare time, and got in touch with Helk.

No, Rust dates back further, and wasn't made by Garry, but Helk.
