• Food Decay?

First of all, I'm not complaining, obviously Garry hasn't completed the game yet and anything is possible. This is intended as a discussion thread. I've had raw chicken breast sitting around for weeks, now, and it's still fresh and tasty. I've got a box with 1,000+ food in it (unrefrigerated of course). As long as I don't get raided I'll never have to hunt for food again. While I hate grinding for the sake of grinding, I also think its a little silly that in a "survival game" you can stockpile raw meat without refrigeration and it will never decay. Buildings decay*, but food does not. I'm not sure what I think about adding food decay as a game mechanic. The game "Don't Starve" has it, and it works pretty well. Food in Rust is plentiful enough that adding food decay would not create a big problem and would add some realism. Cooked food would decay at a slower rate. At some point it might turn greenish and give you a chance of being poisoned. I'm leaning toward it being a nice touch of realism that might force even well geared "end game" players to shoot a deer once in awhile. What do you guys think about adding food decay? *I understand building decay is a mechanism to fight server lag and reduce the number of unoccupied/unused buildings. I recognize adding "food decay" (if that's something Garry decides to do) is not a priority of any kind.
agree
A good idea. I'm sure that, one day, there'll be ice and electricity and a lotta fucking awesome things. Until then, bear, wolf and squirrels will drop chicken meat but the cheats/engine flaws/issues will be gone :) !
I hate grinding so much I don't mind it :).
