Hello. I think it would be fun if something like 8 wood planks, 6 low quality metal, and 4 stones made an equippable skateboard. The mechanics could work like this; Use: Put on a hotbar slot and select it when on a road surface. Pros: Consumes less calories per distance when skateboarding Provides a speed bonus when coasting downhill Travel up to 25% faster Cons: Can only be used on paved road (not grass) Going uphill is slower than running (25% slower) Does not provide cover (you're not in a car!!) and movement path is more predictable (you're on a road, travelling downhill) Cannot equip a weapon while on a skateboard (skateboard is equipped) Of course there is no reason why the characters of rust would not know about skateboards, since many modern items exist in the game, such as guns. Thanks for reading.

I like the idea of a "road only" item, but I wouldn't say skateboard.
This is being added right after the schematic for Barbie's pink convertible and Malibu Beach House
This is a great idea! Also maybe they could add bikes which are harder to make but allow you to use it on grass.
Skateboard are stupid as fuck but bikes on the other hand actually make some kind of sense. I wouldn't mind having a bike.
Just because you think skateboarding is stupid doesnt make it stupid. It would be just as useful as it is in real life. And yes they do have a utility to them. No I am not a little skater kid. I still don't see how this could be a bad idea, in fact I think a bicycle would be a much harder thing to have in the game without disrupting the gameplay a lot. I took the time to consider the mechanics behind it so that it would be a reasonable thing to have in the game, and everyone just goes "OMGWTFS SKATEBOARDZING IS R SO DUMBS U ARES SO DUMBS! DUHDUDHDUHD BTW THEY SHOULD ADDS BIZKLEZ HURHURHUR I R SO SMART." So again, I want to point out that no one has made a valid argument about why this should not be in the game, instead only responding with their personal prejudice about skateboards/skateboardings/skaterboarders being stupid and me being stupid for suggesting it, even though I made a perfectly reasonable thought-out request for such a thing. Sad. My post isn't stupid, the responses to it are. "It wouldn't quite fit the theme of the game" THAT would be a valid argument. But there are a lot of things in the game right now that don't make sense. The only person who has responded with anything even slightly constructive is the guy that said he likes the idea of a road item but maybe not a skateboard.
Wrong on all counts. There is only one mode of transportation that should be in Rust. Using all the excess Animal Fat to grease the bottoms of your shoes and allow you to glide along the ground(even though it wouldn't work that way on dirt).

Can we get the admins to enforce some quality control on the responses for this thread please? "This is stupid!" Shouldn't be a response that even merits an increase to your post count.
Yes I agree maybe a road item but a skateboard is a horrible idea. If you are surviving in the wilderness you aren't going to bring your skateboard so you can skateboard around the woods...
+1 for a Bicycle.. Crafted with some low quality metal/metal scraps and a bit of leather for the seat. Could later be upgraded with a motor to end up with a very Rust-appropriate beat up looking dirtbike.
Yes I agree maybe a road item but a skateboard is a horrible idea. If you are surviving in the wilderness you aren't going to bring your skateboard so you can skateboard around the woods...
Right but not everyone is stuck in the wilderness survival stage. I play with a huge clan and we have multiple giant complexes with roads in between. It would be very useful to have a skateboard to make the trip between our road-bases more efficient. It's a shame the forum trolls here have attacked this idea already, instead of people opening their minds to new possibilities that could make this great game even more fun. Having a bicycle with you would make no sense. It's too big. You're gonna put that in your pocket? You would have to leave it at the first place you wanted to be on foot and then it would be stolen. A skateboard is something you could actually carry with you all the time on your back, or in your backpack, or even in one of your hands. It makes a lot more sense in my personal opinion, than a bicycle.
They're blasting the idea because when one is being chased by mutants/rabid wolves& bears/gun-toting bloodthirsty bandits, I doubt you would reach for your skateboard :) A bicycle however is definitely something I would hop on and pedal for my life- Proven quick& easy mode of transportation used in both World Wars, with the added bonus of being able to keep the streets of Rust clean as a bike cop! lol
Bikes are way more sensible. You could have road bikes that are 25% faster on roads (and damage offroad) and regular bikes that off a 15% boost on and off road. It's better mostly because it requires more maintenance and is something commonplace in most urban AND suburban places.
Bicycle could be treated as a vehicle, not to be carried in your pack. Imagine sneaking up to a rad town and you notice a couple bikes by the entrance, instantly tipping you off that there are several survivors about. Looking around, nobody is in sight, to you this means a free bike! You hop on and start pedalling for glory as a couple angry bandits catch you in the act and bullets start flying but you make it away with only a couple scratches & a shiny(rusty? :P) new ride! They would be small enough to fit through doorways so you could ride them right into your base for safe keeping. Something like that would open up a whole new aspect of Rust (stealing your bike/emergent gameplay anyone?)

I'd say it's worth it.
Personally I'd love to see both a bike, and a skateboard. Bike - Can't carry but faster then a skateboard and can go off road Skateboard - CAN Carry, but not as fast as a bike and can only be used on the road. The bike you would craft and place into the world like most objects and you can't take it back but you can destroy it and it decays. Skateboard wouldn't decay and is an item like a gun that when equipped that's all you have. Maybe make it so you have to slow down before getting off and not just a run off.
Craft a saddle and tame a horse would be cool, you would have to feed it and stuff! Make it so its like a rare chance to tame a horse
While crafting it out of rocks is a dumb idea, why does everyone oppose having skateboards? It's a transportation method that's less tiring than walking, easy to store for hiking, and relatively low maintenance. I guess one reason would be because it probably wouldn't feel nearly as good as a 'board in a videogame made around skateboards (are there even games that aren't based around skateboards but still feature them) but I've always thought that skateboards would be great in open-world games.
I would get satisfaction from using a pipe shotgun on a skateboarder

The experience *would* be pretty immersive.
