• Is this cheat?

Hi, I am a admin at my rust server, and this one guy seems to have incredible aim. He sent us a picture gloating and showing off all the bags in his base: http://puu.sh/6j5rh.jpg This is when i noticed the white dot in the middle of his screen. This would serve as a noscope, hipfire no-sway advantage. What do you guys think? Does this count as cheat?
technically yes. I mean he is giving himself a big unfair advantage. But im not sure It does however show hes edited the games files and that he might take it farther to hacked clients. You also cant simply tell him to "turn it off" as there is no way for you to check if he has turned it off. If it were me id probably ban him for modifying game files to gain an unfair advantage
This is a cheat, Crosshairs are not meant to be in the game as of now, So this guy has a huge advantage, Its probably a part of a hacking package, you never know
"morally" speaking it is a cheat, technically it depends on whether he's using a program that hooks into the game to draw the crosshair
I hope he's injecting that crosshair in, because then VAC'll see him.
I'd ban him.
He is most likely using overlay, which is standalone program, not interacting with game files in any way. You can ban him, but then you are morally obliged to ban all people using duck tape on their monitors for same purpose, which you have no means to detect. On the side note: is it confirmed hip fire is not affected by sway at all? That would explain those bolt action headshots from incredible distance...
The hipfire is affected by sway, but he still does have an advantage. Then again, you could just make the dot yourself with a piece of paper on your monitor.
I disagree. I don't see this as a cheat at all. It's no different than placing a tiny piece of tape in the middle of one's monitor.
The fact is, game mechanics should be designed in the way to not give such easy motivation to people to gain advantage over others. On the other hand though: it's alpha, early access, no reason to get too hot over something which might be completely other way in a week or few.
If he can us it as a aiming sight then yeah i would say cheat since it is a unfair advantage he has given himself. If its just a spot that sits in the center of his monitor and does not move around with his cursor then no. Then again though, why even have a white dot in the middle of your monitor?

Its a crosshair replacement/addition so he can aim better without looking down sights
There is an effect in place to counter this: "Added a small ‘lazy aim’ cone for weapons". What this does is that it slightly moves your gun even if your screen does not move, so the bolt action rifle(Or any other gun) cannot be perfectly aimed with a external crosshair.
I've tested the tape on the monitor. It isn't reliable at all. Why? Stand still and slightly move your mouse around and you'll see there's a bit of a dead zone where the gun will move but you won't change where your looking.
Cheat or not, he has given him self an unfair advantage over other players who play the game as intended with no crosshair. If he claims to be so good, then he doesn't need the crosshair and should remove it.
There is a hack out which most of the hackers use nowdays, and that hack got the exact same crosshair enabled. So my guess would be he is definantly cheating. Here is a image from the hack's website. http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/9966/d66y.png As you can see the crosshair is there.
Onehard2killmofo? This picture is actually me, from the Freak.no server, some people say it's cheat, someone says the opposite. no. i do not inject this into the game, you can actually download this to AMD graphic cards, useing the AMD Catalyst Control Center. The dot is always at the middle screen when PC is turned on, even if im in windows or ingame. Its like an transparent template. It gives just a slightly advantage. On my old screen i actually used a pen to do the dot. So its actually the same. Might start ban people who do the dot. People do what they can to get advantage and not useing any injected cheats. I can also confirm that i do turn my gamma and brightness up at night, i dont find it cheat. just advantage.
I disagree. I don't see this as a cheat at all. I'm not sure what world you come from but using something outside the games intentions or what is given to you in game would be considered a form of cheating or at least giving you an unfair advantage over other players. I considered game guides a form of cheating honestly. Also his white dot is probably a lot nice and easier to use then an annoying peice of paper on your screen that you would want to remove any time you weren't playing rust.
This is not a hack of any description. I think Xfire (the thing no one uses) even has an option to add a crosshair overlay in the center of your screen.
My favorite hack is switching off room lighting when night falls - can see much better, am i morally bankrupt?

That cross air is from a popular hack called artificial aiming, he just has his esp turned off. He has access to aimbot, no recoil/fall dmg, ESP, super jump. Edit: here is a picture
According to Garry Newmans own words. This is considered cheating. "Well over 1,000 people have been VAC banned from Rust for cheating. We have also done a lot of work on both the client and server to make some cheats impossible. That’s not to say that cheating is eradicated. That’ll never happen. Even if we somehow manage to totally stop software based cheats.. people will still be wrapping dental floss around their monitor to form a crude crosshair. looks like a laserpointer without a laserpointer. no cheat ? really ??

Heh - I've got a pretty slick trick that is totally undetectable. I've confirmed that VAC does not and can not detect it. It's a guaranteed undetectable by VAC hack. Worse I know from experience that Valve has NO INTEREST in pursuing my little method. Why? Who knows - ask them. But in the meantime, I have a100% foolproof way of beating VAC, 100% of the time, every single time, no questions asked, no eyebrows raised, nothing. And now I'm going to share it with all of you. This will make the game a lot harder for noobs but you know what? I don't care. So here it is, my 100% VAC-proof way of slaughtering people: Learn to shoot*. * - basic strategy also helps
