Oh so it's closed,http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1317944 Dead Garry, does the sleepers permanently apply to all?

Finally, hopefully this will hinder most of the annoying threads popping up and about.
The thing with Sleeper servers that I have found, after playing on the German server with it activated for around 15 hours, is that it is very easy to abuse. Let me explain. On the German server, I am in a team of around 5-10 people, depending on the time. This obviously allows us to have decent resource numbers, armour and base etc. Those 15 hours, I was able to get every drop, raid almost every house on the server, and become increasingly 'rich'. I would leave for a raid with 6 charges, use all, and return with 8. That is awesome, and although I had fun, there are some core issues with this. A snowballing effect takes place, and now our group can do whatever we want whenever we want because we have snowballed so heavily. It is also very understandable that other players in the community would get frustrated, and I completely see their point. I agree that it is good for sleeper servers to exist, but I feel that a huge snowballing effect can take place, and thus prevent many others from progressing very far in the game. This could all change in the future though, when the servers are able to take on more people and more players buy the game. These are just some of the things I noticed from playing on a Sleeper for 15 hours.
I really appreciate the update. Its sucks to hear that people are still DDOS the servers. I wish the staff all good luck!
Could you get the US EAST servers back on tho, it's okay for them to get DDOS but right now they haven't been in the list for 1-2 days. Thank you. Btw, I've agreed with the sleeper option from the beginning it only makes sense that it's there, yes right now it's frustrating with the no clippers and ddos attacks, hell with the actual balance of the game for some(got a huge metal house so doesn't really matter to me, game balance wise). But this is all going to be changed and balanced in time, so I welcome these changes.
Garry, for those of us with internet that has a way of going out from time to time, can we make sleepers warp to their sleeping bags? Either way I love the sleeper idea, really makes you want to build a safe house to protect you.
But then you can log out at random places and end up in the house, not too good imo.
What if when you log out inside your house, your body is automatically inside the bag? I guess that needs something like closed space detection to work.
Thank you for the update. At first glance, I hated the idea of "sleepers", but once it was forced on my server and I had no choice, my opinion changed. Actually really like it. Hopefully you guys fix the "wall pass-through exploits" asap because that's the only thing thats making me hesitant about playing the game right now.
But then you can log out at random places and end up in the house, not too good imo.
Fair enough point, maybe sleeper goes into effect two minutes or so after logout? Just in case it is accidental
What if when you log out inside your house, your body is automatically inside the bag? Thanks for the official update. I think we all really appreciate it! Bring on future updates bro! COME AT ME!
I don't know about you guys, but the sleepers idea is great! It makes the game hard, something that a lot of games do is hold your hand - exactly what survival game needed imo. Some of the concerns are valid though especially the above post about the 'snowballing' effect of players raiding early in the morning - but what you got to realise also, is that these players can be killed also at the drop of a hat - it doesn't take that much! This has made me rethink my base building strategy and to see if something can be bothered enough to break in and steal my stuff.
Garry, the idea of the messagge to the phone it's perfect. But (there are ever a "but")I think that will have to be 2 type of server, the sleeper server and the normale server. It's my opinion about what u write in the FAQ, I hope i'm not will be ban for my opinion.
Phone message would be cool, i can imagine, me with my pacients, and BAM, your house is down lol....
Garry are all the servers staying sleepers?
I am just wondering... in future dedicated servers files will be available for everyone or is it gonna be "rent only" dedicated servers?

Warping anywhere isn't something we want to support.. because you don't warp anywhere in real life.
This is something we're still debating internally.
Really hope you give some other hosting company's a chance in that case..
Gary i just wanna say you're the coolest dude ever and an inspiration to aspiring game programmers :D
Really hope you give some other hosting company's a chance in that case..
We're open to that.. they can contact me if they want :)
When it eventually comes to steam id love to be able to host my own test/normal servers. Id rather not have to rely on GSP's to host a server when i can do so two-fold. Thanks for taking your time out to answer our questions Garry it means much to alot of us.
We're open to that.. they can contact me if they want :)
Are there any resources to what amount and quality of hardware is required to run a server on Rust? I'd willingly invest into hosting for Rust assuming the initial investment isn't over the top as per the current service being 150 euros a month, which is pretty over the top in any scenario
Warping anywhere isn't something we want to support.. because you don't warp anywhere in real life. [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline] yes but you also dont suddenly lose connection to yourself in real-life, and lose the ability to move or defend yourself
'yes but you also dont suddenly lose connection to yourself in real-life, and lose the ability to move or defend yourself
Some things are just your responsibility as a player. If you have a really shitty net connection, you shouldn't rely on it, and you shouldn't be given special, balance-breaking accomodations because you are relying on shitty connectivity when we've established you shouldn't. And if you don't have any choice in non-shitty net providers, bitch and complain at your ISPs to harden up.

casual players not welcome, as i wont be playing anywhere near as much later on in the month, this iswhy the sleeper feature doesnt seem to make sense to me. youre favoring everyday players and not the casual players. and what about disconnects? in the case of a disconnect or whatever, youll be sleeping, free for all to kill and loot. I have mixed feelings about it really, at first i was completely against it but now im coming around to it, slowly but surely. and i assume in the future when players can setup their own server, theyll be able to choose the server settings such as the sleeper feature?
