It helps but it is not perfect, especially once you turn down your draw distance.
Will we be getting NVG's or scopes or are we all supposed to hide indoors for the night (which actually makes sense) or only be able to run around like noob's with torches (my preferred option obviously) or have we been forced (yet again) to be only able to play as a group?

well there are 2 systems already in play. torches/headlamps make you damn obvious at night, but let you see better. moon phases make it possible to see a bit, some of the time. maybe NVG will be introduced eventually as a rare loot, who knows. in the mean time, yeah either stay indoors, play murder in the dark, or use a torch "like a noob".
The problem with the current lighting is, that you don't see anything at all at night. Running around with a torch is not a real option, because if you encounter a wolf, you have the choice: not hittin it or not seeing it. I would love to have the candle-hat, but didn't see it yet in the game. Was it a joke or is it already in? because i have never seen it.
The current state forces you to stay at home. If this is intended, then it might be ok as it is, but if it is intendended to be able to run arround at night, then there needs to be some change here. Even though night vision gear should come at a price, if not, it might be too op.
I think it would be nice, if a radius of 1-2m would be very slightly enlighted, to make it possible to survive a wolf at night.

animals had a sleep function added a while back. not sure if it's still active, but it will play a part in night travels since if you can see them, you might be able to avoid disturbing them. but i'd really like the torch to be an offhand thing, so you can use other tools while you have light. as for the candle-hat, i haven't seen it, but it is genuinely going to be a thing;)
Have you noticed the effect this has had on inside lighting? Lanterns and fires? AMAZING. Much more realistic at least inside buildings.
Go to a "Dark Park" IRL. Notice the ambient light from the stars even without a Moon. I am sure that the Facepunch bunch will add something to remedy the absolute black.
On another hand, it has stopped night raids quite a bit, people farm int he day, go home at night. :-)

I'm pretty sure having to stay home at night is intended when you first start out, with maybe some gear coming later down the line to help you venture out in the darkness.
As this game is still in its very early phases though, we're just now starting to get some basic equipment for exploring during night (the candle hat).
I'm not sure if we'll get anything like night vision goggles though, as it doesn't really fit the admittedly loose theme the game has right now of everything being hand made. You could make a primitive battery, yes, but how would one make the IR or image intensifying parts?
gama boosting still works... its harder tho, they should increase minimal draw distance to 500 atleast to really get rid of gama boosting
Still works. The changr garry has msde just naked grass look washed out and pretty shitty to look at at night and morning. Thats without gamma on.

actually decreasing your draw distance is how you get good use out of gamma.

i feel your pain lol.
I'm all for the anti-gamma changes. I don't think that "cheating" or using exploits should be considered a "normal" part of the game.
