Hi. I had this issue a few weeks back, and it still persists.
basically, i'll use the mic to chat to a teamie/friend/enemy, randomly, the game freezes, shuts down and steam also closes. I cant see any errors or obvious reasons.
Steps i have taken to attempt a diagnostic : change the quality of mic ( cd, dvd, studio quality) resintall realtek sound drivers. Repair Rust through the steam repair option.
None of these seem to be working. My headset is a steelseries siberia v2.
Nothing worse than fleeing from an enemy with a friend, giving directions or something, then random crash, after relog you've been pwnd.

Having the same issue. Sucks to have someone yell friend or foe, then crash if I respond.
