Heres just a few of my ideas to contribute to the community, check my Recently Started Threads for other ideas!
Building:
Instead of placing twig walls strait up you build a twig frame, these frames would also eliminate the need for pillars and can be upgraded like so:
Twig > Wood > Metal (Frags) > Metal (HQM) - There is no stone because, well, what idiot builds a stone frame?
They would look like the frames visible on the inside of walls currently.
You then place the walls as you would on the outside/inside of the frame. The total construction would look just like walls are now. Sheet metal and Armoured allow a duplicate wall on the inside too, at which point it would look like the outside on both sides. A Plaster Board wall can be placed on walls that dont allow a duplicate on the opposing side of the frame. C4 required would be:
Frame: (You can squeeze through gaps in the frame. Excludes Armoured Frames.)
Wood - 1 C4 (Breaks when attached walls do. Only happens to Wood Frames.)
MF Frame - 1 C4
HQM Frame - 2 C4
One Wall: (Excludes Frame Amount.)
Wood - 1 C4
Stone - 2 C4
Sheet Metal - 2 C4
Armoured - 3 C4
Two Walls (Excludes Frame Amount.)
Wood - 1 + 1/2 C4 (Plaster on one side)
Stone - 2 + 1/2 C4 (Plaster on one side)
Sheet metal - 4 C4
Armoured - 6 C4
Extra: Building parts that are blown out scatter the gibs from the point of detonation (small change, but noticeable that stuff just 'falls' apart once hit with explosive force.) and a broken edge remains where the part was (unless it is no-longer supported, as in the edge that is not attached to a complete building part will no-longer remain.) which allows you to repair to replace the blown out wall. Also, gibs should freeze around a blown out area and be solid (cant pass through them) and possibly emit smoke, because well, wouldn't it be cool to look back at a raid and see a crumbled part of the base where you breached? I understand having gibs sitting around might have to wait for some optimisation, but i just want to see them eventually. The gibs would decay away after about 2 - 3 hours or so.
Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to implement scaffolding to aid in work on external parts of our bases, scaffolding could be made so you can always remove it with the hammer unlike the way building parts currently work.
Weather:
I would really like to see realistic weather events such as extreme storms, cyclones, tornados, fires (bush/grass) and earthquakes. It would be based of scales:
Wind Scale:
0.0 - Still, No breeze
0.1 - Gentle breeze
0.2 - Evident which direction the wind is blowing, but no other real effects are active
0.3 - Starts giving minor effects on movement, causes some leaves to fall
0.4 - Movement impairment is more noticeable, small branches fall.
0.5 - Starts to be more annoying to walk through, trees sway quite heavily
0.6 - Whirlwinds appear, start to struggle to move against the wind.
0.7 - Trees start thrashing back and fourth, almost appearing to blow completely to one side, almost impossible to move against.
0.8 - Uproots small trees, blows over unsheltered wood bases, large branches break away.
0.9 - Tornados may form, some large trees fall, many wood structures heavily damaged/destroyed.
1.0 - Almost certain tornado, causes structural damage to stone buildings and sheet metal buildings. Can throw players around if in the open.
Rain/Fog Scale:
0.0 - Clear day.
0.1 - Light fog
0.2 - Medium fog
0.3 - Heavy fog, hard to see
0.4 - Fog drops off, a sprinkle of rain starts.
0.5 - Light to medium rain, gets slightly darker.
0.6 - Heavy Rain, fog makes an apparent reappearance. Becomes cold for nakeds.
0.7 - Starts to storm, occasional lightning and thunder.
0.8 - Becomes cold for clothed people, more common lightning and thunder.
0.9 - Becomes hard to see, lightning strikes metal objects frequently, causing small amounts of damage.
1.0 - Lets just say this plus 1.0 Wind can be stupidly deadly especially to those outside.
Earthquakes are somewhat random, unattended campfire in grass, fire rockets and sometimes lightning may end up causing grass/bush fires. Grass fires can be stopped by stone walls, where as bushfires may drop flaming material on the other side of a wall. wooden structures may be set alight if in the way of a fire.
Seasons can be applied to this as well, In which case some events would be more common in different seasons, in summer, the snow may retreat to the north, and the lower grasslands may dry out. in winter, areas near the desert become "wetter" and the snow moves further south. Temperature would also be affected by season.
Objects such as Bushes, banners and so on should also be affected by wind
I believe the building ideas would be a great way to improve the whole building system and allow other support/functional parts to fit in better, and the weather system in combination with better AI/more AI would really improve upon the survival aspect of the game.
Any and all input is welcome, just dont be a dick about it.
I love the idea of frames..so simple but great! It could totally replace pillars in my opinion.
to be honest the idea with the frames seams more logical than pillars.
