There's two different types of wooden walls and they each have different strengths. (How to use C4 m

This seems to be rather... well kept secret. No wiki i've looked at has this information recorded and most players seem to just assume they misplaced the C4 when it takes two of them to break a wooden wall.
Seeing as a new patch just dropped, i figured i might as well release this video so that you can educate yourselves and get a leg-up on the competition.

Ideally if you watch this tutorial, raiders you should be able to never (ever) waste 2 c4 on a wooden wall when a better 1 c4 wall is available, and builders will be able to fortify their structures to always require 2 C4 to break through critical areas.
Thank you, very informative :eng101:
damnit, Now everyone know's this. I used this to my advantage :S

Thank u man so informative!
Now so much makes sense to me
God damnit, please delete this >.>
I don't think this is accurate. I have done some extensive testing with this theory, and both sides seem the same. No matter which direction it is facing, it still is random between 1 and 2 charges. I made a 2x5 with all white on one side, and all brown on the other. They were not different. Some take 1, some tak 2 no matter which side.
Nice share! You are going to tick a lot of people off lol

I've placed hundreds of C4, i can nearly assure you that as long as you're putting C4 in the middle-ish area of a wall, it shouldn't take more than one to break a white-middle wall, and that a brown middle wall will take two to break.
If the walls are partially decayed (down to 60-50% health), the wall strengths are different obviously.
Thanks for this dude very helpful! :)
I forgot to also note that the same thing happens with metal walls, but because they're much rarer to encounter i haven't thoroughly tested which is more secure.
very helpful. great stuff! had no idea

Much like metal walls, wood walls do have a stronger side. However currently both wood and metal walls have a "sweet spot" where they can be destroyed faster
Wood - 1 c4 if you get it in the sweet spot on the strong side, 2 c4 if you miss the sweet spot
Metal - 2 c4 if you get it in the sweet spot on the strong side, 3 c4 if you miss the sweet spot
Metal Windows - Same deal

As far as i understand, the hitboxes are slightly different between faces of a wooden wall. This makes consistently destroying both sides in one c4 extremely difficult.
Up and to the right only seems to work on the white middle walls, the brown middle walls still take two.
It's been fixed and its almost completely random now, its about 55/45 for breaking walls on a test out of 40.
I recreated this and it always needs only 1 C4 on both sides. every time ;)
I can see in your video where you put the second c4, the right wall took damage too, so it has been absorbed from the left wall ;) Take a look, after the c4 on the left wall, the right wall was going black ;)

This is also true, when I did my testing I found that attached walls absorb some of the damage. So when I did my c4 test I also made sure there wasn't any walls near by. You can also see this when you repair the corresponding walls that they have absorbed some damage.
All-in-All it does seem a little random and I still place metal doors on any wall on the main floor,2nd floor, or even 3rd floor if I think people can easily get to it.

I understand the idea that other objects "Absorb" damage but the damage is definitely not split evenly between the two walls. The other wall is simply taking damage because it too is in the explosion radius.
Notice that the second wall was standing on both my explosive tests, not just one of them.
You can test this for yourself, a metal door takes 11 grenades to destroy completely. Theoretically it would take 22-24 grenades to destroy two metal doors standing side by side, however you can destroy two metal doors on a corner with 14 grenades placed perfectly in the middle of them, or three metal doors with 18 grenades. Or even four metal doors one on each wall surrounding you with 23-25 grenades.
This is not them "Absorbing" damage, as four metal doors would be 44 grenades. This is simply them taking less damage because the area you must place the grenade to hit all the doors is farther away than just destroying one door.

I still place my walls this way on the exterior regardless, any chance I have to make someone use another c4 to get into my base I will take :) However on the lower levels I don't leave it to chance, its metal doors all the way :P
I would also like to note that its the same with metal walls.. it takes 2 if you put all the sheet metal outside but if you flip it and put the braces on the outside it takes 3-4 I forgot I believe its 4
Watch this video which shows how to break a wall with 1 C4 every time. This is a nice theory but it seems to be caused by a slightly moved center location where the C4 has to be put on.

It only takes 1 C4 to break either side. If the white plank is facing away, look at the bottom of the structure for the beam that bends out slightly. Place the C4 so the left side of the C4 lines up with the left side of this plank and the right side spills over to the next plank. You will get it every time.

There is a weakspot in the upper right corner of the "reinforced" side that lets you kill it with two charges.
It's a nice theory but doesn't always work. There are spots that blow in one on both sides however the white side is easiest to blow for me. I haven't done much testing with the crack wall.

Thats very useful to know. Thanks!

This seems to be a pretty common sentiment. But i've never had luck with placing a C4 in that portion of the wall.
Either way, the Dark middle segment of wall seems to be stronger to most C4 attempts.
And here I am thinking it was because stairs or other objects clipping into the wall absorb some of the dmg done.
