So, i keep seeing in the updates, these beautiful screenshots and videos of a world/map, lightly yellow and orange tint with anti-alias/blur, making everything feel more natural and fuller, and not just white directional light from the unity editor.
Is this part of the new update thats coming? or just the developers testing world?
The new devblog showcases this in all but one video. You should notice the yellow/orange/anti-alias compared to the grey video.
It also makes it look like there is a thin layer of fuzzy grass, not a flat texture.
So...What am i looking at? especially since they just added in a new lighting system?
they just added in a new lightning system?
I didn't know they were adding lightning ;0
haha im jk we know what you're talking about :)
That's the experimental branch, aka the "new" version of Rust.
thats not going to be in the game, its just a part of their testing environment
thats not going to be in the game, its just a part of their testing environment
If true, thats super lame. Game looks 10x better in their testing environment.
Because all of these new models and textures aren't done any sort of justice if there isnt a decent lighting system. Currently its just white directional light from in-house unity. Pretty crap actually.
thats not going to be in the game, its just a part of their testing environment
As i realized it's going to be in the game. They'll do another live branch including all new shit and which we can play as we play live branch now. But obviously not so stable and bla..bla..
Our plan right now is to port everything back over to the experimental branch until it’s in a playable, feature complete condition. At which point the experimental branch will be the default branch, and the current live branch will be put on a legacy branch. This means you will still be able to play the old branch if you want to. We won’t be forcing anyone onto the new system that don’t want it.
Right, What im asking is, is that unique lighting part of the developers screen or the new experimental branch coming out. Its different.
I can load up unity (the engine theyre using) port over the code i want and test it in the testing environment. Which is 100% different to experimental build. But yeah, hopefully youre right, hopefully its something that is included but failed to mention.
The new motion blur, adjustable fov, player character shadows ect ect will all be in the next patch. They aren't going to remove them or anything like that.

Now i get it . I don't think they just forgot to mention about it. I think that it's still different in each branch.
But they should include it, maybe later, not now. I just don't see the reason not improve public client by adding better visual effects..
My only question is how is this an NSFW thread?

Yes, as KingAwec mention.

I live life on the edge
Yes it's all part of the new version
Yes it's all part of the new version
The man himself. I'am humbled.
From what ive seen, the new light and anti-aliasing looks absolutely perfect, should cheer up the game alittle and add some life into its visuals.
Great work :)
P.S, thank you for taking some time and answering some questions. Im excited for this reboot patch!
About Visual stuff:
Adding more unnecessary stuff is the last thing you do to a game on Early Access. Obviously, who doesn't love to see epic orange-yellow-ish filters on the visuals, but have in mind that isn't important. The game can be played perfectly at the moment, but they must first work on the Mechanics, Weapons, etc. (Important stuff)
Also, if you add visuals and you dont have mechanics, weapons, crafting, etc. It's worthless :)
That's the experimental branch, aka the "new" version of Rust.
: Search the definition of update. There will be no "new version." Still Rust, Just updated.
Any info if this new lightning and new graphics will have a big impact on performance ?
Looks awesome btw.

It's extra effects, so you will get a performance boost when you turn it all off. Once off everything should technically perform better than the previous version.

I feel bad for replying to you and continuing this stupidity, but...
The game runs great, the performance for an online game such as this is pretty great to, and if you dont know that then you dont have any coding or developing experience.
The mechanics are in and in the new update, they have been reworked. The weapons are fine, what more can they do or add, really? not much for weapons.
Crafting works fine too, and thats had its changes in the new update too.
In conclusion, The new lighting will absolutely change the game, its the main focal points for engine developers when they release new versions, you dont realise how important it is.
So to summarize, you're an idiot.
Including more unnecessary stuff is the exact opposite thing you do to an amusement on Early Access. Clearly, who doesn't love to see epic orange-yellow-ish channels on the visuals, however have as a main priority that isn't paramount. The amusement might be played superbly right now, however they should first chip away at the Mechanics, Weapons, and so on. (Imperative stuff)
Have to ask, and maybe answered elsewhere already (soo many threads). Is the new version using a beta version of Unity 5, and/or will you be adding PBR?

I'm gonna give you a big hint at what's going on here.

I am sure there is a way of checking but i agree with your deduction elixwhitetail.

I'm not very familiar w/ Unity, but with Cryengine 3 lighting/shading/special effects (Depth of Field, Godrays, lens effects, bloom, etc) are really really easy to implement. Like literally, 60 seconds and your screen looks like BF4. This is coming from a person w/ zero coding experience, it's literally just peering through a menu and applying characteristics to a light source. I don't know if it's the same thing with Unity, but if it's anywhere similar, it's no crime to add this stuff at this point in development. If it were stuff that took a long ass time to code in (like if you were building an engine from scratch or Unity didn't have any stock/asset store shader modules and had to write your own shading proxies) that'd be different. Can anyone with Unity experience chime in on this?

This is a prime example of talking out of one's ass. Take note, kids, this is how to make a fool of yourself in public. Do not hang out with this guy.
Yes it's all part of the new version
My only concern is if we can remove the motion blur? I really do not like it, since it's emulating something our eyes already do naturally and when artificially reproduced it gives me a headache.

Not sure if you'll be able to single out specific effects (don't see why you wouldn't be able to) but at the least you can turn it all off according to Garry. :)

Yeah, that was my concern. I'd like to keep everything else sans motion blur. I hope something more exact than a slider bar will be put in. :/

Me too. Possibly either toggle-able options (checkboxes or something in a graphics option menu) or console commands/config edits. I don't know shit about programming, so I don't know how complicated stuff like that is, but I'm sure many people would greatly appreciate it. :D

Development is development, anything they do makes it better and brings it closer to completion. Also keep in mind there's multiple people working several different angles of this game, it's not like they only do one thing at a time, nothing would ever get done.
