Hey fellow Rustians,
After 3 weeks of vigorous planning, testing, and executing I think I have come up with the best base design in this game so far, I just want to know what y'all think about it.
Ladies and Gentleman, I introduce the Ultimate Rust Pyramid Design!
Basically what you do is start with a Odd numbered foundation base dimensions (5x5, 7x7, 9x9, etc), then on the outer perimeter put ramps on top of the foundation . The key here is that you can place multiple ramps on the same spot, meaning you can have 100 ramps all take up the same 1x1 space. What this means is you can super fortify each section. I have tested this with a server admin by having him place multiple c4's on a ramp stacked up to 50 and all the c4's managed to do was blow up one ramp per 1-2 c4. The explosives do not blow up all the ramps at the same time. With this principle, you can continue by building a second level up with ceilings then place more ramps on the more inner perimeter until eventually you will top it off. For the interior you can highly customize to suit your tastes but what i prefer doing is setting up a large wall/metal door maze on each floor with all my stash and stairs closer to the center of the pyramid. I will upload an image of an example later on but this idea should be simple enough yet very effective against raiders if done properly.
ramps facing inside or outside?
i figured outside but then how do u get back in?
isnt this going to be really expensive? just to get a 5x5 + all ramps?

Was thinking the same thing
I don't see how this gives any additional protection. You can place a pillar for much cheaper that can not be C4'd.
And just where does one put a door?
I'd say you suicide to get in, but then I think you have no way to get your stuff inside, even if you use a transitional box.
Also, I might be reading it wrong (brains needs more coffee) but you describe a foundation made of an odd number of foundations (e.g, 5x5) but your picture shows 8x8. Are you placing the odd number foundation first then put down another layer of foundations and the ramps?
I still think one of the best strategies is a 2x1 tower with metal door between each staircase. It's cheap and gets the job done. As you grow, your base grows and you progressively move your loot room higher and higher. Place unattached foundations surrounding your tower with pillars so no one can build up and work their way down. At a certain point, the number of charges will outweigh any stash you have. You can also build another tower elsewhere and split your loot. Right now it takes over 30 charges to get one of my towers and I never keep 30 charges worth of loot inside it.

Sorry i too have the afternoon fatigue, I meant to add a 9x9 example.
But basically all the ramps will face outside, too look like a pyramid. This is better then pillars because with pillars You can still go in between or blow up the wall you attached to get in.
Also what I forgot to mention was you do infact leave one ramp off the design to add in a metal doorway, but this design is still good because now, whoever is trying to raid you will not be able to look between the cracks of your wall to see which wall to c4 to get to the goodies, forcing them to go through the front door or some other way which should be impossible if done right, again i will post a picture when I get home.
I might have to fire up Rust again just to try this. I like the idea of nobody being able to see inside etc and I wonder how it would look once completed.
Looks like Morpheus22 never got back home?
But still I tested this out, only 10 minutes ago and it still works!
10/10 could raid with 1 c4
Id blow your door, drop 100 ramps in your first room, place my own door, and then drop 100 ramps outside. Live by the ramp die by the ramp.

The problem is that someone can just build up outside and blow from the top. I had an L shaped one (so a 3 square footprint) that was built surrounded by rocks such that you could not build directly next to it. Me and my mate had gotten it up really high and felt safe, but someone built near it and stacked those barrier things sideways and avoided all the doors entirely.
100 ramps? wow, if you actually manage to gather that much wood, salute. its gonna deter a lot of people.
if you only put 20 ramps however it takes 5 people 6 minutes to destroy those with a pickaxe.
if you shape it like a pyramid people can still bruteforce their way thru the doors with 40 c4 or actually less if they manage to find where the stairs are.
Best base you can have in rust is a base outside of the map (past mt everust) but you will be far from resources. As for a protective base just find a flat area and dont stop expanding the base.
Just putting ramps on the outside walls is a waste...do this instead, it's way more effective and really helps with griefing on vanilla servers...

Also, don't do a pyramid design...it leaves a nice flat spot for people to sit there and pickaxe your base. If you do a cube and pillar up, they can't build up and easily knock down the ramps.

We get it. You can exploit.

I have to do something against super jumps, barricade pillar climbs, and barricade climbing on ceilings. I have zero base defense mechanics...I have to use something to protect my shit.
