• Weak walls make this a troll game :(

The amount of time it takes to build walls compared to the amount of time it takes to chop them down makes it completely worthless to build at all. Below are the current times to bust down walls found by Rustified (http://www.rustafied.com/rust-experimental-building-upgrades). I think these times are accurate as I timed taking down a metal wall in about 7 minutes. Compare that to how many hammer hits it takes to hit that level and it is completely worthless to try to build a house. For each X level up you build , it takes X hammer hits to contribute a resource to upgrade the level. Considering that for someone to break the base they only have to take down 1 wall, while you have to 7x as much to make a 1x1 with door upgraded to metal. I know the game needs to be balanced still and this is just in there to make something work but considering that this branch is default now it really needs to be better balanced. I can defend my house for a while but some troll with a rock and a macro running can put a bag down half a click away and just set the macro to chop away, not even having to participate really until the wall is gone. BTW this is my strategy now and I recommend it to anyone that is getting into rust right now. Don't bother building, just get some cloth and make a bag near your target of choice and then chop their walls all naked and newman until you get in. Trust me, do it for 2 hours and it'll exhaust the other player and they will give up. Naked trolls with shotguns were bad in legacy, naked trolls with macros chopping your walls is much much worse. Completely agree with this. Had some great fun busting into 'strong rooms' via the ceilings.
If u build right, U can upgrade your base so it takes a hour to get in :)
Is durability in yet? I would think this will change a bit when you destroy your raiding gear as you bash through each door/wall.
If u build right, U can upgrade your base so it takes a hour to get in :)
Could you give a hypothetical example where "building right" doesn't take 10 hours while breaking in only takes an hour? My point is that the time which it takes to actually build is significantly higher than the value of just being a naked and bashing the walls of those that built. Regardless, I'm curious as to what strategy you suggest is right.
Weird i had a team of 3 guys and we had to bang on walls for a really long time to break in. I know they can be upgraded and you can even see them currently degrade to the lower levels as you break them down. Takes a good while and still takes a moderate amount of time with the lowest level of wall. I have a base with double walls fully upgraded, i've heard people try to break in but they usually give up. Or we creep out the door and shoot them lol.

So it takes 20-30 min to get to your items 4: Make fake rooms with chest`s behind them. Place some shit inside it. So people think it`s your loot room. 5: Place walls beside your walls so they need to destroy 5 walls before they get inside. Also they can`t see throug it. (F3 also not working) 6: For your roof? Place walls on your roof. On 1 floor u can place 5-6 walls. Before they reach the roof they need to destroy 3-4 walls. And they don`t know if it`s the right one. 7: When u are ready to sleep, place some boxes near a wall and place a wall in front it and upgrade it to lvl 5 so people don`t see it. (Yes u need to destroy the wall when u log in again) 8: When u ready to sleep place your items behind the wall and sleep in a•fake loot room so people think that`s every thing u have I have a image, i place it later! Gl?
Walls have a "Sweet Spot" that you can find by looking up a bit and you will hit the wall faster. For example looking down to hammer a floor is slower than looking up to hammer a floor from underneath it.

Hope furnaces become destructable soon. People are missing the whole point of the game making these bizzare creations using exploits so they wont get raided. Its like legacy with suicide bases or having bases surrounded by pillars. Such eye sores and destroys immersion.
Atm you cannot build an decent looking base that is unraidable because walls are breaking and oder stuff too so you have to build in spots where it is impossible to break the walls. Or Super Hidden
Gee, it's like walls are easily destroyed at the moment so building can be tested efficiently instead of requiring you hold the mouse down for 10 minutes to get a wall to collapse to see if it triggers a bug when walls are destroyed. Just like the fact that walls cost almost nothing, so actually building the Great Wall of Rust is doable in a reasonable amount of time by a reasonable number of people without admin free item cheating. I know people hate hearing "It's in alpha" but that is literally the reason for walls being easy to knock down. If you don't like it come back in a couple months when building is likely to be further along and hopefully more durable (or there are traps or something to compensate).
Ideally, getting through upgraded walls would require a multifaceted approach. Ex: use crafted fuel to light a fire and degrade the wooden frame (visible from quite a distance, so attracts attention), use crafted explosives to weaken metal supports, use physical bashing with strong weapons to break through stone.... a well-built base would require multiple types of attacks. I want to recommend primitive siege weapons (rams), but I do a lot of solo playing and may be shooting myself in the foot.
The current upgrade system is only the first iteration. Numbers will tweak and more levels may be added. I just updated the guide with numbers on how long it takes a hatchet to break down each level. Long story short: less time. [editline]1st October 2014[/editline] Oh and just tested pickaxe... it's slow as balls, don't bother.
You'll be happy, as of today, rock does less damage to stone and metal walls: https://trello.com/c/wqkQBrdW/193-rock-does-less-damage-to-stone-metal-buildings
@ rustafied im a little confused by your page it says it takes 34 rocks hits to remove the level 1 wood wall and it says it takes 5 seconds. Explain to me how you hit it 34 times in 5 seconds? I must be reading this wrong?
Oops, thats a typo. 34 hits refers to how long it takes to bring the whole frame down, however, you can walk through it as soon as it turns into a frame (which takes about 5 seconds on a wall which was just brought to level 1). I'll clarify that now...
