First of all, before you start calling me a cheater, hacker or whatever, just hear me out, please. I am not saying, it wasn't my fault at all that I got banned, but just listen what I have to say, alright? I just want to give people heads up, so stuff like this doesn't happen to anyone else.
So, this is how it all went out.
I was playing Rust as always with my friends on server called Rustralia. After running around and searching for each other for good 40 minutes we all got together. We started to gather resources for our camp. Two of us got killed by a shotgun blast to the face, so we had to start all over again. I have played Rust for almost 30 hours and I still haven't learned the map, so again we started to look for each other and it was pain in the ass in a map as big as Rust's, so we decided to go our separate ways.
After we finished playing, I went on the internet and looked for Rust map and found [URL="http://rustmapmarks.com/RustMapOverlay.php"]this site[/URL]. Basically it's a Rust map overlay and it lets you display a map over your Rust window. I went on the forums to see if it's allowed to use modifications like this and everyone said it should be fine. I tough it would be really helpful and it had over 6000 downloads so I downloaded it. Then I installed it, but I did not try it out.
I did not play Rust for quite some time, but after a week or so I logged in my Steam account and went on my Steam profile and found out that I have been VAC banned five days ago. I did not know what to do, so I went to Steam support page and sent them a message, but they immediately sent out an automated response that the ban would not be removed under any circumstances.
That's about it. I can no longer play one of my favorite games.
I understand that the game is in alpha, it has tons of bugs, exploits and glitches, and it should be improved so that everyone should have fun playing, but giving away permanent bans when the game is long for being finished is not right in my opinion, because we pay big money to play this game. Cheaters should be punished by giving them like timed bans so they could expire (if that's even possible), but who am I to say that? I am just a "cheater", just like Steam says. And by the way, I know that Steam gives out these VAC bans, not Rust server administrators or something and I am not blaming them, nor anyone at 'facepunch", but stating my own opinion.
Anyways, I think I am going to wait till game get's finished or at least till "experimental" gets updated with all the functions from "old" Rust, so we can play it and then I am going to buy it again.

You probably did not get the point of my post, but that's fine by me, there's always someone.
You're point is, I guess, is telling people not to use a map overlay since it got you banned, also, you're saying "I went on the forums to see if it's allowed to use modifications like this and everyone said it should be fine." I guess that forum wasn't facepunch.com.

Well, yes, I wanted to tell that as well, but I also wanted to state my opinion about these permanent bans on unfinished games or bans as whole and all, but probably nothing is going to change.
And about that forum, I don't remember, I just searched google for answers, it might as well be any other forums.
I don't see any difference between an unfinished game and a fully released one when talking about cheats/hacks.

I wouldn't consider map as a cheat when it's pretty much available for every player out there. Just open map on Steam in-game web browser and you are good to go. Or you are saying it's a cheat as well?
And I am pretty sure, that craftable map or compass is going to be in a fully released game.
Overlay map is cheating as long as it's not aproved by the Dev's or who ever decides it.
And how would Dev's gain any progress, info about a game being developed if they were to allow cheats? Wouldn't that be like putting a stick to the wheel?

We are only talking about maps here. Have you even seen other cheats for this game, like auto aim, looting or going through walls, or any of other countless cheats that does massive damage to the game and ruins all the fun for other players. And how does a simple map could be considered as a cheat when it's available for every player to use and does no damage at all?

Yeah that is pretty stupid I wouldn't consider that cheating, its just a map on your screen but the fact that you needed a map is kinda sad.

I don't know map, because I never explore it. Usually I just find a quiet place and play by myself.

What forums did everybody tell you it was "allowed", let me guess, the CHEAT site you got it from? Certainly nobody here told you it was allowed, so you probably posted on a cheat site, and cheaters told you cheating was ok.

You have 9 posts total here, all on this thread, meaning you never asked anybody about this. Seems odd because I like many others google rust map and the first things you find are various sites with maps you can look at. You went straight to finding 3rd party downloads for some reason.
What is your steam profile? You can look up your ID on [url]https://playrust.eu/bancheck.php[/url] and see what the reason for the ban was.
Look, mate. Running 3rd party software that's [i]not[/i] an addon (and thus 99/100 times a .exe) is never a smart idea to do with Valve games. VAC is very very strict.
The rule of thumb is; never run a .exe that messes or interferes with the game. Don't listen to cheater sites either since those people are always positive about cheats. Research regular forums, but don't bother with FP forums since everyone here sucks Valve's dick and will almost flame you for getting VAC banned. Running third party software like that isn't smart, but lesson learned here. No reason to scrutinize/investigate this fella.

Thank you for being understanding. It was really dumb move from me, since I haven't been familiar with that kind of stuff, but lesson is definitely learned here.
