I was rolled up on by 3 gentlemen all wearing the armor plate and metal facemask. In a last ditch effort I threw my wooden spear and hit one DIRECTLY between the eyes, after which he told me it did next to no damage. So maybe you need to up the damn damage of a spear flying into someones skull?
admittedly, i threw a spear at a horse, and he ran off with it stuck in his spine. took a few hits after that to take him down. feels like the thrown damage should be a little higher:)
Would be cool if arrows and spears just bounced off of armor, and if you hit someone in the head with an arrow or spear they should pretty much be dead. Here's a naked I got in the forehead. I laughed out loud when he didn't die from that shot.

It should at least be 70ish damage with severe bleeding against helmets

but its just a flesh wound;) i think certain attacks simply don't do enough damage. maybe the modifiers for location need to be tweaked? a headshot should pretty much be instant kill for most things other than say the rock.

agreed. at which point maybe the spear should bounce off rather than stab into the players head.
