Hey ,just making this thread about the feeling that numerous players had:
What is the purpose on Rust ? (You get bored fast somewhat)
I mean it's cool to make a house and all, but surviving is seriousely way too easy on the game, and what is the point of having a house when you can already survive without it.
Adding a "village" system ,with Leaders / villager or something just like gangs.
Like a way to be the "Chief" (adding some extra perks, à la Reign of kings like taxes)
Or just post your suggestion for a "purpose" to the game. (Climate change that allow the player to freeze if not on a house, need of water on desert, something that make the survival part hardest)
I feel filthy doing this, but shameless advertising never hurt anybody.

I talk about making the game's PvE, PvP and Building/Raiding harder. Check it out.

I don't get people saying they are bored of Rust. I have played over 1,300 hours, (that's almost 2 months in-game time), and I'm still not bored. I play with many people who have clocked up over 700 - 800 hours.
Maybe you're just doing it wrong?...
We made a decision this week. We’ve been trying to get to baseline, building a foundation, get shit stable. We decided that although it’s not perfect and exactly where we’re at, it’s time to start pushing forward with adding features. Balance, performance and stability is going to obviously be affected by these new features so probably doesn’t make much sense to hold off on new features until we get these things perfect.
Expect new and exiting shit soon.
That whole "village and chief" system is something the players can do on their own. We don't need mechanics to tell us how to play a game and what we should do in the game, we can determine that ourselves.
I've seen plenty of villages and compounds pop up on Rust servers.
I do understand your concern of getting bored though. For me, it's just because my friends don't really play the game anymore, so when I do check it out, I maybe pop in, make a house, leave, and don't come back until the update the next week. I'm pretty sure once I convince them to start playing it again, I'll be playing the game like crazy like I did in Legacy.

I have to agree with antoine, minus the caps maybe xD. there's already a new form of ugly ass sky bridge being used to access rock and water bases. when will this madness end ? lol

In other words you expect the game to be a big messed up minecraft with tons of trolled houses where there is no meaning building at all, since no matter if you spent days building your home, any troll child will be able to get into it after 15 minutes of play, right?
Go play minecraft... (in a not protected newbie server, because even in decent minecraft servers the houses are fully protected...)

in other words? kinda sounds like you're just putting words in his mouth to me. when did he say he wants all bases to be raidable in 15 mins? lol

I can not even remotely imagine how could you made such conclusion.
But now i see, that you should go play protected newbie minecraft server. Because this game is not for you, its about building and raiding. It's not only sandbox for builders.

the beauty of rust is the fact that all those things you ask are missing.
since all this numbers, taxes, roles, are missing, you player, make the story.
it's so easy to give quests to new players rewarding them with food and shelter, or maybe guns for the next quest, while you calmly sit close to the window watching your minions raid your enemies. petting a white cat.

I have a saying about boredom, "Only the boring get bored, those who have managed to keep their imagination, are never bored"
-shrug- I'd still play if they got rid of the twigs. I refuse to right click and upgrade every single thing from twigs to something better. I'll come back to the game once that is fixed (it may have already been and I just don't know).
Possible solution: Let us set the hammer to turn stuff from twigs to wood/stone and we just hit stuff to upgrade it. If it was like that I'd still play.
You're lucky. Now you can go to play with a stick.
I already do i call it a Spear, i also attach rocks to small sticks and call them Stone Hatchets this helps me gather larger Sticks which i then turn into a fortress. I even attach strings to sticks, i call it a Bow then i attach feathers and sharp rock bits to small sticks and call them Arrows with this i can hunt animals and kill vicious raiders wanting to take my stuff that i created with my Imagination and creativity.
The Boring get bored and the Bored are boring. Without Imagination and creativity we would have nothing. Only the Boring and Bored would disagree with me.

of course not, i build bows and arrows and other weapons in real life.

Saying this game is boring is like staring at a pile of loose legos and saying they're boring and you don't know what to do. Some of the best times I've had come from getting bored, grabbing a stone axe, and running out to see what trouble I can get into.

And then what is the point of people having gone to a huge amount of effort building and upgrading their multi-layered defences to armoured metal if some kid with a building plan and some wood can come and have a go at getting into your base? The balance on raiding is actually in favour of the raiders, not the victims at the moment.
If I've made a base with multiple perimeter walls and then people could just twig structure their way over the walls to be able to put a couple of C4 on the meat of the base, what was the point? The harder bases to raid should have a higher cost, it's as simple as that. The effort to make the base hard to raid, or not necessarily worth the resources it would take, should be rewarded.

How many C4 charges have you crafted, and how many bases have you successfully raided? Be honest, please. Because I don't know many experienced veterans who think the balance on raiding favors the raiders right now, except when it comes to lazy or inexperienced builders. If I can build a tower and you're forced to use the path I set, climb my stairs, blow through my dozen doors just to get to the top... the balance favors me to an obscene degree. And that's if I'm sporting enough to actually leave you any stairs to begin with.
Low-technology walls are generally ineffective at keeping determined skilled attackers out unless they're manned. So says human history and common sense. Demanding that people chop or blow their way through every ground-level wall ring you build around your base, when their C4 is insanely expensive and their weapons break like corrugated paper and your walls cost 10-20 seconds of combined tool-swinging each, is really just a way for you to say "I don't ever want to be raided under any circumstances" while dressing it up as a balance issue.
All we can continue to do is make suggestions as to how the building system can be more complex and more tactical than it is. But misrepresenting the situation doesn't help get us anywhere out of this current state.
If you're bored try making your own mini games in rust. Here's a few ideas:
1. With friends, see who can collect the most human skulls without dying in an hour period.
2. Get noobs to follow you into a trap with fire pits at the bottom. Play "ring of fire" by Johnny cash over the voice chat while they burn.
3. Do long distance shot for shot with bows like in tanks.(or worms) each player can only move 3-4 feet after their shot and must remain still while opponent shoots.
4. Break dance.
5. Make twig mazes vs a friend. Each start out with 3k wood and make the finish point a chest. Once you finish building the maze run around to your friends built maze and run each others courses simultaneously. Whoever gets to the chest first wins and gets free beer.
These are just some ides I came up with while on the pooper, (although it helps I'm constipated).
As frank said, rust is like an adult version of Lego's. If you're the kid who needs the manual to have fun, this might not be the game for you.

I hear the moaning about C4 being too much resources from people who want an easy raid handed to them on a plate all the time. Actually, the only thing difficult about C4 is the time it takes to make the stuff. If you have gone to the effort to have a decent base of your own, you should have around 10k sulfur alone from the farming you have had to do to acquire the metal for the walls. If I have put in the time and effort to have my base simply not worth the resources required to raid it (fully upgraded perimeter walls as well as the base), I don't see why someone should essentially have a cheat code in. My base has been designed the way it is for a reason and if there is no obvious weak point in the base, it's because I have put in the hours to make it that way so allowing things like twig structures to be built in tool cupboard radius is ridiculous; it discourages putting effort into building your base.
I have made plenty of C4, it would seem I pick and choose the bases I raid for minimal cost.
I said it at the start of this thread, and having clocked up another 25 hours in-game since it was posted, I'll say it again ... I don't understand how anyone can get bored in Rust?
Do you already have the biggest base on the server? Have you already established dominance in your area of the map? Do you already have a bank of furnaces producing sulfur and a chest full of c4 ready to go? Have you already destroyed the bases of all your rivals?
If so, you are probably playing on a server full of noobs, or you are the only one on there ...
Seriously, if you don't know what to do without someone telling you, then I think you need one of those games with a storyline that you are guided through, not a sandbox.

Your base has been designed the way it is because you're relying on a magical exclusion zone to protect you, a zone that says "you can build a 7-story fortress in 10 minutes, but some other guy is magically prevented from throwing together a rickety siege tower to climb on top of your roof". I'm positive I'm not the only Legacy player who felt a moment of disgust when you referred to building up to someone's base a "cheat code".
You ignored the point I made about walls, so I'll reiterate: until this game becomes more similar to LiF, where building is a long and arduous process, you need to stop thinking in two dimensions. This is not a Tower Defense game, enemies don't have to come at you the way you expect them to. If your defense strategy fails, adapt and find a new one. If there was no obvious weak point in your base, if you had truly made your base cost-ineffective to raid, then this is a conversation you'd rarely need to have.... particularly when this game becomes more feature-complete and players aren't standing around trying to come up with things to do to occupy their time (i.e. this thread).

My base isn't even a tower for a start, you seem to be missing my point. I'll say again: What this boils down to is you want to limit people's capacity to build creatively so that you can get an easy raid without having to put the effort they put in to building their base. It takes hours to farm the metal ore, smelt it into fragments and then farm the extra wood to use in the furnaces, as well as use on the armoured walls before you are even at a point where your base could be deemed unraidable, or at least not worth the resources it would take and that's not including all the tools required to get all of those ores. For someone to come in and build a twig structure to get into a base by farming 3-4 trees makes all of that effort pointless, there should be strategy behind building an unraidable base (more than just building on a rock) as well as strategy to raiding. This is always going to be a conversation that will happen because there are plenty of people who just want to attack other people without putting in the effort to get to that position in the game.
I completely agree that if a defence strategy fails, people should adapt and find a new one and that enemies don't have to come at me in the way I expect them to, but then why would I go to all of the effort I have in making what I think is a pretty sturdy base if people can just come and tear it apart without even trying? As I said, your argument is just a way of stifling building so that people who don't want to try can have an easy ride. There are more ways to use the tools we have in the game to build decent bases without having to build the Burj Khalifa on a rock.
FWIW my base is three storeys, on the floor and has a perimeter wall. For someone to be able to build a twig structure over my wall to get to my base walls in one minute without having to try at all is entirely unfair after I have sunk an entire weekend into getting my base to the point where it is entirely armoured metal.
