Rust (New) - Metal Window Bars?

I see that there are window bars in the House plan set but it says I can't afford them. I believe it wants 200 metal and I have 1000 on me.

what am I missing?

I made them and put them on all my 1st floor windows. I assume that means no one can shoot through my windows anymore?

Nope, they still can as far as I am aware

provides some protection as ranged attacks are likely to hit the bars, and stops players from entering via the window (which i haven't been able to do to an open window for ages since its so twitchy). but things can still pass through the gaps in the window.

Try taking a step back and aiming your head downwards when you jump. If you do it right you should be able to wedge yourself in perfectly.
