Hello all, I just want to start off my suggestion post by saying I know Rust is in alpha, and I know my suggestions are not the priorities of the developers. I am just posting these ideas for when these problems do become priorities. Locks and Keys This has been a fairly controversial topic among the members of the Rust community. People complaining because they get locked inside their own house, and the main counter argument is to keep a few extra keys in your house. Well that's not practical, that's not fun, and that's definitely not how keys work. I think an easy way to fix this would be to have one side of the lock be designated as the "inside". You could choose which side is the inside when you are placing the lock on the door, a green pointy arrow and the word "In" could be bouncing towards the inside of the door. This would be a simple and easy fix for a problem that has been plaguing the Rust community. You could then unlock your door from the designated "In" side, but still need a key to use the "out" side. I'm sure we've all been locked outside a building once or twice in our lives, but I seriously doubt if anyone has ever been locked inside their own house. Radiation This suggestion is not linked to a problem, but just an idea of mine. What if buildings could be made to resist radiation? You could build your house right next to those cute wolf statues you find. I thought buildings could be made insulated by animal fat(Already a great insulator) held in place by cloth. The lard covered cloth would then be stuffed into all the visible cracks in your walls, door, and ceiling(For obvious reasons this won't work on window frames). This anti radiation insulation would also double as a heating insulation in the cold winter biomes. This fat and cloth layer would not be able to block out radiation and cold, but just resist it. For instance, if you rush inside to your house freezing/radiation poisoned you will not get warmer/lose rad points just by being inside. You will however not gain any cold or rad points. So you will need to couple together insulation and a fire/rad pills in order to take use of your houses abilities. Knockout Something that I think Rust needs is a knockout function. There is already a stealing feature, and I very much like that, but that is only good for stealing one or two items. If you sneak up on someone and you see he has an inventory full of good stuff your going to want to take it all, but no body will be standing still long enough and not look at their inventory to realize that their loot is being siphoned from them. You could kill him but then he will become your sworn enemy, and we all know how fun it is to have someone live just to track you down and kill you(It's not BTW). Being able to hit someone over the head with a hammer(Finally a good use for the salvaged hammer) and knock them out for say 2 minutes gives you enough time to steal the loot off of someone and get away before they can see who it is. My idea here is still kinda sketchy and could use some refining. If you agree or disagree with me then post below and tell me why; don't just down vote, tell me why you down voted. If you have an idea on how to make my suggestion better then great! Add it below!
me like
You could kill him but then he will become your sworn enemy (...) Being able to hit someone over the head with a hammer(Finally a good use for the salvaged hammer) and knock them out for say 2 minutes
I would rather get killed and able to respawn in 5sec, than stare at some 'knock-out screen' for 2 minutes :P I do like the idea of knocking out tho! Rad and lock ideas as well.

For some, death means a start over, while a little 5 minute nap spells out progress :)

I would rather knock someone out just to piss then off than to kill them and have them running back wanting blood for taking their boots.
got to admit, knocking a player out seems pointless to me. if they are unconcious, you can take everything they have. they are very unlikely to find you, and will probably try and kill you just the same for stealing their stuff, regardless of you leaving them alive. and time delays are a bane to gameplay:)
Without a malus for killing and dieing, there isn't much of a reason for knocking someone out. Although if you can respawn the instant your knocked out, I can't say it would have a negative effect on gameplay though. It would be easy to implement.
