I have been playing Rust since New Rust came out, but so far I have yet to see a decent hunger system. Yeah I know running around brings down your food and water a little but not enough to really be much of a threat, its not until it has been a few dozen days until you realize that there is actually a thing called starving to death. IMO players should have to eat and drink every day to survive food and water level should drop by at least 5 0r 10 every minute. This is just my opinion considering this is a survival game. :P
It wouldnt work well, people would look for food instead of killing everybody they see for no reason at all.

Your logic is foolish. This game was originally just another copy of Arma 2 mods. Which fully incorporated legitimate hunger and hydration systems. And PVP is even more active in those mods than it is in rust. Basically every other survival mod or game actually has a fully functional hunger / hydration system, and it hasn't messed with the pvp aspect in anyway. Rust 100% needs to fix their system, as it seems dumbed down and takes some of the fun out of the game.
^ incredibly basic hunger system

I think he was being sarcastic....
I've bee saying this for months, it wouldn't take much to reintroduce the game core mechanic (survival).
People are leaving the game because of this!
People are leaving the game because they don't starve to death after 24 hours? That is interesting. They had clearly bought the wrong game.

I'm sorry, I thought I was playing Starving Simulator 2015.
metabolism is basically an empty shell right now and just because you have a hunger and thirst bar doesnt mean the devs is gonna just simply "change the values". for metabolism. youll never starve whats the prob then?

Ive been saying this for some time, so i agree with you.
Metabolism is definitely one of those aspects they should have looked at long ago - preferably when they added thirst and then water sources to the game. In Legacy, you had to eat and drink regularly in order to stay alive, and it worked well. Implementing values similar to that in new Rust shouldn't be too hard and would go a long way to adding the the currently non-existent survival aspect of the game.
Seriously, this is one seriously overlooked part of the game. After a couple of days, chances are pretty much everyone has a crate full of food sitting in their base that's mostly unused. Chances are, you'll go days (real time) without needing to eat anything unless you incur damage and want to recharge your health. To me, that just seems wrong.

You might need some binoculars to see the joke for how high over your head it went.
Survival doesn't always mean that the worst enemy is hunger. IMO in example a DayZ sucks. There's nothing else to do than find a food and something to drink all the time.
All what I mean with this is that the Rust focuses on fun and enjoyable moments, instead, that the game should be taken seriously and play 12 hours of descent.

The metabolism system in Legacy actually worked well. It wasn't too heavy handed requiring you to constantly hunt for food. Food was perhaps a little too abundant though. With the new Rust, food is a little less abundant in the world, but the metabolism is basically a joke since it does basically nothing. Like I said in my last post, if they entered the same values as Legacy for the current metabolism, it would likely work well. They could then balance it up or down as required.
But as it stands, the metabolism system is basically a joke. They could just remove the hunger and thirst bars completely, because other than when you're a new spawn, no one gives a shit about eating unless it's to regain lost health.

Holy hell. No. Please, no. I want to spend my time in Rust fighting and building and gathering. Not eating and drinking. How does the introduction of an annoyance like this make the game more fun?

how about adding "late game" foods, like a cooking pot, fridge etc like in don't starve (not played in ages!)... requiring you to eat less in the end game.
crunch and I have agreed on this topic wholeheartedly on other threads. it wouldn't take much to fix, but there is no need to eat other than to gain health. it's supposed to be a survival game
I love rust, I don't think a non story based game has engrossed me to much, but I feel like it's lost its way very recently. It wouldn't take much to bring it back either....
Rust isn't located in a wasteland so food shouldn't be that much of a problem. At the moment there are
only a few food sources but already more than in legacy and I'm sure they will add even more food
sources later on.
I think they will focus on the survival aspect sooner or later, I got no worries there.

Honestly, I think the problem is that they added it to the game in the first place. If the little Hunger/Thirst bars didn't exist and all food did was restore health, few would complain as such a mechanic has been a staple of video games since the beginning.
I deal with hunger and thirst in games that require it, not because I like to - but because I have to. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone, but there can't really be that many people out there who fire up their PCs thinking, "Oh, I'm so excited about what I'm going to scrounge up for food today!" These types of threads attract those types of people, but I suspect most people log on excited about how they're going to improve their base, what goodies they might find in a rad town or how hard they're going to pound that rival clan. These are the things that people enjoy. The things they play for. What benefit is there to forcing them to take time AWAY from these things to put it into finding your three squares for the day?
I've said it before... Gameplay trumps realism. Every. Single. Time. This is not to say that the game shouldn't have realism. Just that it should never come at the expense of good gameplay. If you can have realism AND good gameplay, that's the ideal. But many of these suggestions go too far. An in-game day is ~1 hour. Anything that approaches relative realism in how much of that hour I spend gathering and eating food is a horrible horrible idea from a gameplay perspective.
1 in-game day should require a bit more pork or thigh or whatever, but right now the metabolism is reduced a ton.
*bear is high reward tier, and human leg should stay same.
It wouldnt work well, people would look for food instead of killing everybody they see for no reason at all.
What do you mean? The people of Rust a so savage they already hunt each other for food, what should stop them from continuing their long term tradition of eating 7 cooked human legs they managed to cut off of one persons body?
:wideeye: Metabolism and survival elements are definitely needed in a survival game. :weeb: Rust needs a lot of adjustment and some features added. It's on the to do lost.
