OK, I'm going to have a rant... My friend reported our community of houses were being raided and promptly killed him etc and the job was already done by the time I got on. Now I'm fine with legit raiding, it's part of the game etc, take your stuff, but you can start again. But they have completely griefed our bases, going to considerable effort to block in doors, place walls in undesirable places, even destroy doors and replace them with their down codelocked doors and leaving them open. We've not made any enemies and I've seen evidence of similar behavior on other bases on this server just starting recently. Although I find it rather psychopathic to want to intentionally hurt and upset people, I think large clans such as this need to be given something else to focus on rather than picking the wings off flies.
That is not griefing. Sorry to tell you that, but when i raid, i do that to. I'm usually a friendly player and I try not to do it, but when a group come and start to kill my friend on sight, in my area, we defend ourself. we raid them, we put blocks in their house, we lock their tool cupboard, etc. It is not griefing. They probably spent a lot of C4 and effort to raid you, and they won your house. In my book, that is legit raiding. I raided enough to learn that raiding isnt about loot anymore. Explosives are too expensive. its about destroying other people, stealing, etc. Most of raids do not generate profit. So by taking your house, they earn at least something. Now, there are many ways to protect you against this type of behavior. hide your tool cupboard. Your house is only as well protected as is your main cupboard. It is an extremely bad idea to put your main cupboard in your loot room. Or even in the adjacent room. Because thats where the raiders go. For example you could put many cupboards in your house, still put a cupboad in your lootroom, but put the actual main cupboard in an external 1x1 outside the house. Statistically, i observed the external 1x1 cupboard are the one that are destroyed the less, since the addition of ladders. but you are free to find the strategy that suits you best. Just, when you get your house blocked, accept the defeat, as they fought fair. If they find your main toolcupboard and block your house, thats because it was not protected enough.
I hear what you're saying to a degree, just something I've never encountered before. You're getting revenge on unfriendly players which is fair enough, but this was unprovoked and is happening a lot on this server all of a sudden. Blew me away the amount of effort and resources that went into the grief/owning process. If there are multiple overlapping cupboards, do they all have to be authorized or does the main (first one) trump them all? I.e. if there was a secondary cupboard that's missed by the raiders, but they found the main one, do they gain building privilege?
Yes, they would gain building privilege. You can have 10+ cupboards in your house, but as soon as raiders authorize themselves on your main one, they get building privilege.
It's not just on my server (Rustopia |EU/UK|) its just the way the game is at the moment. After looking around and talking to some of the other large population server owners it normal practice to disable a base you raid. I know it can be annoying but if a raider get your cupboards the base is theirs. It's up to them what they do with it. That said when I play on other servers I only tend to disable larger bases I leave the smaller ones so I can come back later.
Fair enough, I guess I wasn't looking at it from the "disable" base point of view which is understandable. It's been a learning process! Kulan, you rock man!
I check in here now and again and saw the server name lol. You guys rock :) servers can be wrecked by bad admining but can only be made great by the players and the community around it. My admins and I just keep shit fair.
If its a big base, i.e powerful owners then we will make sure they will struggle to reuse the base anytime soon, or take it for ourselves as a dummy base for others to hit - why wouldn't you? If it's a small base/new guys etc then we mostly leave it, sometimes complete with their sleeping bags so they can get going again, for one reason - so we can come back and get more. I am on my 5th wipe on Rustopia |EU/UK| and I seriously doubt you will find a better run server. But don't tell Kulan..........
Sulli`s Trade and Slave is always up for Contracts :DD - you might get shot

Learn about cupboard placement, cupboard priority, range, etc. Then you will gradually learn how to build a base hard to raid. Every time you get raided, try to see how they got in, and how to prevent agains that. Raider will come, thats for sure. They will steal your loot. But one thing you can protect is your cupboard, that way you keep your house.

You could have 3 cupboards overlapping each other and a raider would only get access by getting authorized on the main one. By authorizing on the other cupboards they can still gain access to your outer edges where the "main" cupboard doesn't reach, but the inner area where it does reach will be inaccessible until they get to the main cupboard.
