• Suggestion: replace airdrop with plane crash (largely cosmetic)

This idea is simple and largely cosmetic: instead of a large aircraft dropping a crate of supplies on the island, have a small aircraft (helicopter, single engine civilian plane, single-seat fighter jet) crash on the island. Once the aircraft has hit the ground, players can loot the wrecked fuselage (just as they loot the airdrop crate now). Instead of slowly falling to the ground under a parachute, the aircraft would spiral down so players have time to gauge where it's going to hit. Not the most groundbreaking suggestion, but this seems "More Rust-y" to me than the current airdrop. Thoughts?
Could be fun to have an plane crash once in a while. But I think what would be even funnier would be to be able to shoot down a plane when it comes to drop an airdrop.
Another fun idea to mix it up would be a satellite crash. Could contain lots of metal fragments as well as solar panel parts large batteries and a radioisotope generator when electricity is added. Would look cool at night as well.
Wreckage from the sky would be fun as long as it wasn't the norm. And we should be able to salvage the weckage itself for parts.
I think an OCCASIONAL crash would be fun, for exactly the reasons punchfodder said. But a daily plane crash? Way too much. And it's not difficult at all to track the airdrop.
I think the ability to shoot down the airdrop plane solves both problems. We would only get occasional crashes that way as it should be difficult to hit and need for the shooter to be on a mountain in order to have close enough range. Should also require a rocket launcher. This way if you wanted to shoot down the plane you would have to be in the right place with the right equipment. Also the crash should yield a lot more stuff.

Very interesting idea. I think a plane crash would be epic! It could be a very rare form of "drop" and on impact it blows up in flames (Therefore you cant camp under the crash site & grab and go). And a satellite crash could be an even rarer "drop" that only happens at night. (it could light up the night sky on impact). Both are VERY cool ideas but I think they should be rarer than the current drop system as a crash every 30 min would be dumb. But once every few hours IRL would be cool. A cool down of ~6 Hour plane/chopper crash would be fun & and a satellite crash every 9 hours would be epic.
