Hi again all :)
Another quick suggestion, from someone that loves climbing and trying to build houses on top of rocks.
(Winding) Rope!
Why would it be useful?
Currently, there are two ways to circumvent climbing: ladders (anywhere) and ladder hatch (in buildings).
Both are nice (I love the mechanic of the building part) and cover many simple use-cases, but have a few problems still.
1. Ladders are not always easy to place. Especially if you want to put one on a rock/mountain face, because it's never a straight surface the "placement validation" often means you cannot put it exactly as/where you want. Also, they need a vertical surface.
2. Ladder hatch need floor frame (not a big problem though) and cover only one-block height (which is coherent with the intended use-case, no argue there). So you have no way to create a "hanging entrance" above a gap.
So, I thing we players could have several uses for a rope: climbing down a peak without risking fall, easying access to a rock top (just for fun or for house) with the basic "rope object", then later creating traps with ropes, lasso to catch animals, making an elevator or bridge small gaps, and other...
So how would this work?
My concept would be a length of rope (to which you can add more), as an equipment, which you can stick into a ground or vertical surface to make it stick, then you can climb on it. That would be a very basic blueprint, maybe known by default.
An advanced use would be a craft to affix the rope to a winder (deployable best, building block if simpler), with a stick making the rope end (much like a fusion of this and this.
So, you could manually wind/unwind the rope, leading way to more use-cases:
- basic use-case, use this mechanism to make an alternative access to a house.
- advanced use-case, create a load elevator.
This would be a fairly advanced blueprint, like 3th grade.
And finally, you could imagine motorising the wind to make it work with low-grade fuel (or same fuel as vehicles if different), as an upgrade of last tier BP.
How would that be different from ladders/hatches?
- Freeform object so need only one attachment point (whereas current ladders are rigid so need a surface to affix for their whole length). So can be hanging in air.
- Different materials (I'd suggest cloth for basic rope, metal fragments for attach point).
- Customizable size, up to "10 blocks" (not sure how this could work in interface though: maybe consider that when you stack meters of rope, you're "knotting them together", and when you split the stack you're "cutting the rope").
I don't know how difficult all of these ideas would be in terms of implementation, but I hope at least the basic idea would be doable because I'd love having a rope for many uses. ;)
(for example, extending the rope object so you can make a lasso of it and try to catch horses ,)).
Thank in advance for your feedbacks on this. :)
