:pwn:I bought it for my computer and installed it no problem and also played it. I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend and when she tried to install it, it said she needed additional programs. We found out she needed "Source SDK base 2006" so we found that under tools and installed it, and done the stress test within it. So we try to install Garry's mod again and it still says "You need Source SDK base 2006"
I've also ran a couple of source games e.g HL:DM and HL: Lost Coast. The games run fine but when I try to accept the gift I still get the same message.
What is going on?
you need to own and have run CS:S, HL2, or TF2

The thing is though, I dont own any of them on my computer and I could install/play Garry's mod.
I do however own Portal 2, could that be why I can run it?
Portal 2 uses it's own version of the Source Engine, you need one of the aforementioned games. Demos, L4D, Lost Cost, Portal: First Slice, and such do not count as having "Source SDK Base 2006"
I have just learned that TF2 no longer comes with a copy of the Source SDK Base 2006, as it is F2P now
Team Fortress 2 is Free, go download it on steam.

Well I'm trying to think how I managed to run Garry's mod then, I don't own any other source game not have I downloaded demos, except for Portal 2 and Alien Swarm.
Buy either CSS or a game in the Half Life series but not before HL2. Garry haven't thought about adding the Portal 2 engine to Garry's Mod.
Also, to be honest, you got your self a pretty big problem here, so next time you buy a game, try reading the info steam gives about it.

There is only a problem on my girlfriends side. As I've said, I haven't bought a source game, nor have I played one (Except portal 2)I don't own CSS nor any game after Half Life 2 But I can still play Garrys mod.
...Warez? Seriously though, it's not that anyone's saying you're wrong, it's just that one of the requirements of Gmod is to own a source game that comes with Source SDK. The base isn't enough, as that's free to download. Portal 2 and Alien Swarm are too new, and TF2 doesn't count since it's free now. How you were able to run it without those, we can't say, but that is why your girlfriend can't run it. If you were to buy one, I would suggest Counter Strike Source at minimum since most textures used in maps and many custom things come from there.
