• hl2.exe has stopped working

I'm running Windows 8.1 and using the latest Geforce drivers. GMOD starts up, but within a few seconds of reaching the main screen, it crashes with an error window stating that hl2.exe has stopped working. I get no other information. I deleted the local content and then reinstalled, tried the direct x level fixes, and nothing will stop it from happening. I was running the game fine until about a week or two ago. Nothing in my system has changed other than standard updates to the OS and perhaps one version of the latest video card drivers. Is anyone else experiencing this problem with a similar setup? Any ideas or suggestions?
may you post your pc specs please
Windows: Windows Version 6.2 (Build 9200)
I may be missing something obvious, but what is windows 6.2? anyways, go to your garrysmod folder (in steamapps, common) and check if there are any crash logs. if there are, upload the most recent one and post a link to it
