Proper way to make NPC's

Hello everyone. I don't normally ask questions on here because I can often find my answers by searching but so far no luck with these question.

First, what is the proper way to make an NPC for Gmod? I have found some tutorials on this with a little luck but no real "success" by using the generic lua scripts. I have made my own NPC's while using ragdolls from my addons but a lot of times all I get is non moving, arms outstretched NPC that does nothing! Can someone please tell me or point me in the right direction to make my own generic NPC's from my ragdoll's?

I have GibSplat and love it a lot. I have noticed that while a lot of models (NPC's) work with gibsplat not all do. I have a Zero Suit Samus model that does work with GS but then I have a ZS Samus with jigglebone boobies that does not. I figured it was just that it couldn't work with JB's but then I got CM10 Alyx NPC Pack and they work with GS just fine. What is it that allows some NPC's to work and some not to and how do I/can I do anything about it?
