As the title suggests, the game freezes at the loading screen. Specifically, when the bar gets about 95% of the way to the end and the text reads "Finished!", the game freezes and I have to manually exit via the Task Manager. However, this latest time I let it just load for as long as I could and after about 20 minutes it crashed with the error "Awesomium has crashed - couldn't create NewObject!"
Things I have done to fix this issue:
- Re-installed Steam
- Re-installed Garry's Mod
- Verified Game Cache of Garry's Mod
- Verified Game Cache of all related Source games (CSS, TF2, HL2, and Portal)
- Re-installed all related Source games (same as above)
- Deleted ClientRegistry.blob and restarted Steam
- Restarted my PC
- Moved all .dll's from common/garrysmod/bin and common/garrysmod/garrysmod/bin into System32 and SysWOW64 folders (C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64)
- Opened all ports on my router via a DMZ to my static IP address
- Deleted all registry entries relating to Garry's Mod, then re-installing again
- Installing Garry's Mod to a separate Steam location where only Garry's Mod is installed (C:\Program Files\Steam instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam)
- Installing Garry's Mod to a separate (external) hard-drive
- Setting various launch options including -dxlevel 80, -dxlevel 81, -windowed, and -autoconfig (among others, the list is fairly long)
- Deleting all the stored Cloud files and re-downloading the default ones.
- Re-installing C++ Redistributables as well as Awesomium
Things I haven't tried:
- Partitioning the hard-drive and re-installing Garry's Mod on that (I have a SATA/SSD hybrid drive which may be interfering)
- Reformatting my hard-drive
The game itself worked a few months ago, and after that it would just crash on start-up. After I moved all the .dlls into the System32 and SysWOW64 folders, the game ceased to crash but instead freezes at the previously mentioned point.
Any help would be fantastic. My computer specs are below:
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
Intel i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20 GHz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Video Card: AMD R9 280x w/ 4GB VRAM (DDR5)
Motherboard: Asus Z87
Just to note that my CPU, Video Card, and Motherboard (BIOS) drivers are all up-to-date (and sound card as well).
did you remove all your addons ?
Oh, lawl the one thing I forget is the one thing everyone mentions. Yeah, I unsubscribed from all the add-ons.
Try allow awesomium_process.exe in Windows Firewall.
The awesomium_process.exe is located under
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\bin
Windows Firewall and Windows Defender are both disabled, and I have no other anti-virus/firewall/anti-malware software installed.
I've already scanned for viruses if that's going to be your next question (using TrendMicro's free scanner)
Just try opt in/out of the dev branch, haven't seen this issue before.

Did that, too. Opted into the dev branch, no go. Opted out again just because.
