Hello guys, i'm about to purchase an automatic donation system for my server seeing as manually handling donations has gotten to be a hassle, however, i'm facing a big issue.
I've never hosted a website or bought a domain before, so I don't think i'll know how to properly set up a donation system.
Are there any good tutorials for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many game hosting providers will offer you free web hosting and databases. You will probably get a domain that looks a little like this: yourcommunity.gamehostingplace.com. Usually you just use an FTP client to upload and download files, your provider will provide you with a username and a password to connect to with an FTP client. Most people use Filezilla for this purpose, but there's plenty out there (Windows Explorer has built in FTP support too, if you're not interested in downloading a separate client, but it's not the best thing in the world).
If you wanna be extra special you can buy a domain at a place like Namecheap and point it at your hosting from there. It's not necessary at all unless you really wanna make a "brand" out of your community.
Alternatively you can just buy shared hosting at some place like Dreamhost. I think they offer domains as well as webhosting, so you can get the whole package there if you want to spend a little extra. They're probably a bit more reliable than whatever a game host will offer.
As far as setting up the donation system, you'll probably get instructions on how to do it in a text file. It's usually as simple as uploading the files to your webhost and your game server, then configuring it to use a specific database. Most developers will provide free support for setting this up, though not all have the patience to walk a beginner through it.
Usually as mentioned above by joeyl10 most providers will grant you a free website with mySQL capabilities however if they didn't provide you with one, you can get them pretty simple and cheap even free.
First you will need a domain provider such as GoDaddy. These services cost around 15$ a year but can be free on some websites.

Free ones:

You will need to get you're nameservers from you're hoster which will allow you to connect you're domain to your webserver. Hosters will almost always provide you with a ftp and MySQL which is all you will need.

you can find out more about these by doing a google search for webhosting and domain registering.
probably the simplest thing to do is buy domain and webserver from the same provider then you won't need to do any manual setup between the dns registration and webserver.
I tried to check GoDaddy but their services are way to high. Are there any good providers out there with lower rates?

Have you heard of the Googlez?
GoDaddy for the domain name,
Host Gator for the domain hosting.
