Hello, I am having trouble with people joining my server, i have port forwarded the necessary port range and have disabled all my fire walls etc. My server does not show up on the server list and people cant join the ip manually, i used to have a Garry's mod server a while ago and it worked then but now i have tried hosting one again it is not working, I am running windows 8. Please help asap as even the BT tech experts didn't know what the problem could be.
I'm assuming you have this hosted at home? If this is just for a few friends, you could try using a VPN.
No, i am hosting this as a dedicated server on my home server but no one can connect.
if its a home server in your house it's still hosted at home, trying to host servers behind a firewall blows even if it's properly forwarded
All the firewalls have been turn off therefore have no impact.
All the firewalls have been turn off therefore have no impact.
Not all of them then.
All the firewalls have been turn off therefore have no impact.
being behind a home router provides it's own issues, even with "no firewalls", i know you said it's a dedicated server but i assume it's still on a home connection on a home router, that adds it's own issues when compared with something plugged into a datacenter - i mean, you're having issues that pretty much proves it, i can spin up a digital ocean vps right now and it'll have full connectivity
I have had the BT tech experts that have solved anything that could be affecting it my side, which leads me to believe that it is something wrong with the server or something else, i am just here trying to find some answers, not everyone telling me that theirs a problem BECAUSE YES I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM! Now anyone that wants to post something useful, please do so.
There's like a ton of things here.... Are you hosting from your own PC or a dedicated Virtual Machine? If so check all virtual ports and see if both UDP and TCP ports are allowing traffic from the ports gmod uses. Are you running straight from your pc to your modem or are you running through a desktop switch or hub? If so - check that. Do you have any antivirus on the said machine that may interfere with firewalls or ports? If you do, again check that. To double check ports have been activated on your machine use: http://www.canyouseeme.org Are you sure you are giving people the correct IP address, im not assuming you're dumb but i have had people give me LAN IP addresses before so like 192.168.1.100 instead of their public ip, like for example 70.190.146.213:27015 etc etc.
Hey. Don't home host man - it just doesn't. Regards, Snow
To reiterate. Hosting at home is all around a dumb idea. You will run into an unbelievable amount of network and bandwidth issues. Simply posting that they cannot join or connect is a giant generalization.
You should use utorrent to port forward that's how I did it so I could test stuff.
Did you port forward?
I almosted posted this, but then I read it again. Read it again If you don't want to, it says he portforwarded it.
I am running windows 8.
I think I found the issue
