GMod randomly stopped loading. I had it open a few minutes before and then when I try to open it again it refuses. It exits at the loading screen before that flicker that usually happens halfway through. No error boxes or sounds happen, and no dump files or apparent crash logs are made. -condebug doesn't make any logs. I tried verifying cache files, completely removing the garrysmod folder, removing the registry settings, and restarting Steam.

This happened a couple days ago too and the only thing that fixed it was a complete reboot. It looks like this is going to become a recurring problem and rebooting is not a practical workaround in my case.
I had Garry's Mod, Source SDK, Hammer, FRAPS, and many other programs open and then I opened Sysinternals Process Monitor for an unrelated task. hl2.exe crashed at that moment. A few minutes later after procmon was closed I tried to compile and run a map from hammer and GMod closed during load. I tried launching it from Steam and it said the game was unavailable. I tried again and it launched it while simultaneously initiating a GCF check, which opened a message box telling me I can't do GCF checks with open games. GMod failed to load again. It then appeared to be updating GMod, GMod 13, and some other game like HL2 Deathmatch. I closed Hammer and the Source SDK and tried again after it was done checking and updating, to no avail.
I have no idea if any of that is relevant and I don't remember the circumstances for the previous case. I think the previous case lasted for weeks until I finally rebooted. GMod 13 and Half-Life 2 work fine.
Edit:
I rebooted again, fixing it. I closed it and opened process monitor then closed that and GMod started failing again. Procmon must make some kind of change or load some driver that upsets GMod.
